<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Washington Post - Regular season NBA games could take place in China as early as next year, league commissioner David Stern said on Sunday. The last time the NBA came to China was in October 2004 when the Houston Rockets , led by local hero Yao Ming, played pre-season games against the Sacramento Kings in Shanghai and Beijing. "We didn't have the China game in the following year in 2005 because we were having a collective bargain then," Stern told state news agency Xinhua in Guangzhou. "We don't have it this year because of the preparation of the world championship. "But we are planning to play some games next year here. It could be pre-season, or even regular season."</div>-realgm.com I get the idea of making the NBA more international, which is probabely the main thing the NBA has been trying to accomplish the past couple of years, but that's a pain for hte players, why should they travel all the way to Shanghai/Beijing to play a game, it's a pain to go through the long flight and the jet-lag when you could just travel to the team's stadium in the same country or stay at home. It's a cool idea for the pre-season or maybe even the regular season if it's done only once or twice a season. Well according to Stern it's not happening this year because of the world championships, we'll probabely hear more about this in the months to come.

I'm tired of this crap. The NBA is our game, i'm sick of it being exported even though it's only a preseason game. Let the Chinese watch it on TV. :ranting:

Seriously, the NBA is a global game. The MLB already plays games in Japan, as they are recognizing that Japan is crazy about basketball. And if, say, the opening game is in China, then the teams fly back and get a few day's break, then jetlag shouldn't be a big problem.

It's America's game. We pay for the tickets, we support the arenas being built with our taxes. I don't give a damn if people in China like the NBA.

I love when they have preseason games in other countries, but I don't like the idea of regular season games overseas. One reason is because of all that traveling could really mess with you and hurt your team in games. And they should not take away one of the team's home games. It's bad for the team and for the fans.

Hmm. Well, I can't see a franchise being there, ever. But having a few games there could be a good way to reach out to the Chinese people.
