because they're winning games by landslide scores while keeping their best healthy for bigger games down the road. Because spreading the ball around puts the team first and everyone focused/involved. Because the football genius who directs the attack wants it that way... apparently he feels other players deserve touches too I guess despite posing the same question multiple times you're not going to back up your opinion with reasoning STOMP
I'll pose the same question when you decide to answer that question by posting the same answer multiple times. But since you asked for it, here are some stats to back up my opinion and reasoning. Colt Lyerla - 12 receptions for 189 yards and four touchdowns FOR THE SEASON. 12 receptions over six games? You think that's enough? DeAnthony Thomas - 20 receptions for 205 yards and three touchdowns FOR THE SEASON. While that's 8 more than Colt, you think that's enough for someone of DAT's talent? I understand saving your players for better competition, but 12 or 20 receptions over six games is pretty ridiculous, especially when you take into account the production that we are getting out of those receptions. I could also understand spreading the ball around if we had the talented players that warranted the touches, but do you honestly believe that Eric Dungy, Will Murphy, and Daryl Hawkins are quality receivers? I would love to see Huff get the ball more, but he's obviously still injured, and it is affecting his play. I'm also curious why we haven't seen more of Vaughn, but it appears he's below Dungy, Murphy, Hawkins, and even Stanford and Lowe on the depth chart. Go figure.
Part of what makes the offense so good is that it isn't predictable. Spreading the ball around and plugging in different players is what makes the offense what it is. If a recruit wants to be the #1 wideout type guy he shouldn't sign with the Ducks because he isn't going to be showcased like guys like Woods, or Lee at USC. Just look at the last game for example. Will Murphy led the team in receptions. The offense is probably better than its ever been right now. No cause for panic.
Nobody is panicking. I am merely wondering aloud why two of our best players aren't getting more touches. And as I've pointed out before, this offense was pretty damn predictable when we were giving LMJ 20 to 30 carries per game, but that didn't seem to slow our offense down. There's a reason why you give the ball to guys like Woods and Lee of USC, it's because they're amazing talents and they will deliver. Who would you rather lead the team in receptions, Will freaking Murphy or Colt Lyerla?
If it produces and keeps the opposing defenses guessing, I don't give a rats. I'm willing to bet you look around the NFL at 1st round tight ends and Lyerla is on pace to do better than what they did in their sophomore years.
I guess we'll find out if it produces and keeps opposing defenses guessing when we actually face a quality defense.
Speaking of LaMichael, I wonder if he'll ever get playing time with the 49ers. I was excited to see him get drafted, but now he's 4th on the depth chart.
I have been wondering the same damn thing. I like Kendall Hunter, but I really want to see what LMJ can do in the NFL. I'm not saying he should climb up the depth chart, but in a blowout like the one against Buffalo, I would REALLY like to see him get some burn.
I have no idea what you were trying to say He's looked sharp/great when he's had his opportunities. I'm mostly happy he seems healthy and that they've been so dominant... I'm a team guy & really couldn't care less about whether someone is being properly featured vs Arkansas St. see above if you were a reporter at a CK presser leveling theses concerns and reasoning, I suspect you'd generate a smirk and a two word answer... "next question" It seems really silly to me that you place such huge importance on who is getting touches when they're averaging in the 50s. You know that type of featured WR (Tuinei) you spoke of pining for? Last year through 6 games he had all of 19 catches. Of course he wasn't also returning kicks and getting touches at RB. If you look inside his stats you might notice that his biggest catch games were in some the biggest games (LSU, Wisky)... the sort of games I'm suggesting CK might be saving his stars for. I definitely think that Dungy, Murphy & Hawkins haven't been given a thing... they've earned their opportunities. All three are very physical blockers and in case you weren't aware thats a pretty valued attribute by Chip's staff. They sometimes leak out to catch a pass, but more often then not they're leading DAT on swing pass and contributing to Oregon's dominant run game... happy to have them STOMP
Niners are sitting both LMJ and A.J. Jenkins, their #2 and #1 draft picks. Very odd. Neither of them are even suiting up for games, are they?
