Oregon and Colorado are so similar when it comes to voting. You have two very liberal cities (Denver and Boulder) that almost exclusively elect Democrats in Colorado. The eastern part of the state is conservative ranch land. The mountainous region has small liberal enclaves, but are mostly people that don't want government in their lives. Here, it's the Denver suburbs that tip the balance one way or another. In 2008, the suburbs went for Obama. This year they're trending Romney.

In Oregon, it seems to me it's Multnomah and Lane counties vs. the rest of the state. The counties that will tip the balance one way or another are Washington and Clackamas.

You are right of course Maxi but the question is why? What the hell went wrong in these urban areas of either state.

When I first move from Oregon it had the coolest Republican governor in the country, Tom McCall. I don't believe the state has voted Republican since.

Its not just Lane and Multnomah that are really liberal in Oregon. I'd say Bend and Ashland are more liberal as well.
