He also praised President Obama, who traveled to New Jersey on Wednesday to survey storm damage with him. Mr. Christie, who has been a sharp critic of the president, said he had talked to Mr. Obama six times since Sunday.

“The president couldn’t have been better today,” he said.

Mr. Christie said that he and Mr. Obama were “big boys” and that their political differences had not stopped them from working together to deal with the storm.

Acknowledging that his interactions with Mr. Obama were of political interest, Mr. Christie said, “I’m aware of all the atmospherics. I’m not in a coma. But the fact is, I don’t care.” He added, “There will be some folks who will criticize me for complimenting him. Well, you know what? I speak the truth. That’s what I always do.”

yeah, caught that. Not at all fun to see how he reacted. I understand he is acting in the best interest of those in his state, but I feel he was out of line. He reminds me of the big fat kid on the school playground that bullys all the smaller kids around. Then one day some one tags him on the beak and he crumbles...

Anyone have a comment by the President regarding Governor Christie that was made after they met, but before the Governor said what he said?

Sometimes, by pure accident, politics inadvertently makes you do the right thing and then get rewarded for doing that thing. Obama and Christie's little circle jerk is both good for the recovery effort and coincidentally good for both of their political careers.

What's to be gained by being hostile to the president? Christie is a good guy to console 60% of the people in his state and Obama the other 40%.

The caption on this photo: "The name 'Romney' is spelled out in sand during an Obama & Christie aerial tour of the Atlantic Coast"

I do agree, usually Christie is full of piss and vinegar, very confrontational. Fact is I have refered to him as the watchdog. This storm has taken all the fight out of him, as is understandable. I have also stated that it is sad to see him behave as though all his teeth have ben pulled.

I dont like to hear him keep saying how he knows what is at stake with the election and that he does not care. I do give him credit for looking after his people regardless of politics, but to think that he could have been the vice presidential candidate..dunno, guess its just me.

Awesome. Looks like "SUCKS" has been scribbled out underneath. Perfect confluence of disaster, politics and New Jersey.

Was a combination necessary? The words in my title had a much more meaningful impact.

In a close race like this, where many independents are torn . . . this could play a factor in the election.

Re: Is Christie a GOP traitor?

Funny that MaxieP and and PapaG haven't chimed in...

This could be the death of the Romney campaign, as if it needed a tipping point.

Lesson learned: Never sit on a teeter-totter with Chris Christie.

Good for Chris Christie putting my state of birth before politics. The family I can get ahold of tell me a tale of complete devastation. There are still family members no one can reach.

As for the political angle, he's a Republican governor in a blue state who will face the formidable Cory Booker next year for re-election. Working across the aisle is a requirement for him. It was good for my state, good for Chris Christie and is the first thing Barack Obama has done in a while that has actually made him look like a president.

Take all the shots at me you want, but people are really hurting in the Garden State.
