With the Knicks aquireing Jared Jeffries today that takes the Mavericks main competion for Martin away. With Francisco Elson leaving Danver for the San Antonio Spurs, This leaves a big slot to fill on Denver's front court rotation. The Mavericks are willing and looking to aquire Kenyon Martin. The Mavericks could complete a sign-and-trade deal with former Maverick Keith Van Horn who the Nuggets deeply sought after, the past weeks. Needing another big and more shooters obviously. Van Horn could be the perfect piece to the puzzle. But Van Horn along might not get the job done. So the Mavericks could also include Center Erick Dampier, who would fill the role Francisco Elson left with flying colors. Many believe that's a reason rising 3 year veteran 7'5" Pavel Podkolzin was released earlier this week, so that a deal simular to this could be completed.

I dunno y they would want K-Mart. He would want to start and with DNowitzki, it'll screw up team chemistry.

No way in hell would i do this. K-mart would ruin everything in Dallas. There isnt enough room for him. I thought we all saw that when we had the lineup of Antoine Walker, Antawn Jamison, Dirk, Finely, and Nash. I think the Mavs learned that they need role players to win. If they do a sign and trade with KVH to Denver, I think we would be going after Najera only. Thats the only player from the roster that would make sense. No way this deal goes down.

No offense dirk4prez but enough with the Kmart stuff, if it happens then you could post it. But a lot of these rumors are bullsh** and never happen. Like when has a rumor about Dallas ever happened in the Nelson/Cuban era? Especially the proposed deal doesn't make sense for either side. They can flat out sign Van Horn right now without having to trade for him and take on Dampier's contract. Also, it makes no sense for them to get out of Kmart's contract, only to take on Damp's, for a backup role. For Dallas, Donnie has made it clear no big moves, Kmart is a big move and would disrupt chemistry, plus has a terrible contract and attitude. Also, after the 04-05 season, shouldn't you know that pairing two guys in the starting lineup whose positions are the same, don't work out.(Walker/Dirk)

The Mavericks dont need a guy like Kenyon Martin on the team. This would be very stupid by Dallas managment. It would just add another guy that would want the ball and the Mavericks are going to have enough problems finding a good number of shots for each player. With Josh Howard getting better and better, he is going to need to start demanding touches. Kenyon Martin is injury proned and wouldnt help the team in any way IMO.

^I agree.Plus why give up Damp when he, along with Diop, form a formidable center rotation that makes it one of the better ones in the league.

What and the hell would Kenyon Martin add to that team? It's time for Cuban to stop moving and keep this roster set...just a foolish move...and un needed.

Don't see the point in this, especially with the way he left Denver I don't see why anyone wants K-Mart

The Nuggets wouldn't touch Dampier and his contract. He doesn't come close to fitting the Nuggets style of play, plus they have Camby and Nene to play center. If it was going to be any trade (and reported in papers) it would be Van Horn and Stackhouse. As for the Mavs no needing him. That might be true. But if you look at the offseason moves the Mavs are trying to get tougher. They signed George, Buckner and Johnson, all tough minded players. Avery wants tough players and he has said so in a round about way. Martin is a tough player.

Both are what I would say tough minded players but with no baggage like Kmart. Which is why I pass. Also, that trade makes no sense financially for Dallas, Stack expires next year, and no way Dallas takes on Kmart's contract without dropping one of their own as well. Then you have the big issue with playing time now with Dirk, Damp, Kmart and Diop are trying to get minutes. Three of them with large contracts. Just makes no sense, also the poster who posted this is just his opinion. Thread should be deleted imo, there's no article or speculation that says it's even close as the thread implies.

Well getting Dampier now is almost out of the question as the Nuggets have traded for Joe Smith.I do think it was more wishful thinking on part of Dallas reporters than anything. Yes, I agree financially it would seem odd, but the Mavs have showed less of a worry about the luxury tax then a lot of teams other then the Knicks.Basically a Van Horn and Stackhouse trade would be a Stackhouse for Martin trade and that really is a steal on Dallas's part. Big for small. Young(er) for old. When healthy Martin is an outstanding defender. And it usually take a fully 18 months to recover from Micro fracture surgery and that is where he'll be.I don't think it is close, but it has been rumored, so let it be. There are a lot of rumors that never happen that get posted. Maybe the wording should be altered a little instead.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>but the Mavs have showed less of a worry about the luxury tax then a lot of teams other then the Knicks.</div> Cuban has done the opposite. Acquiring expiring contracts and letting them expire. Having two expiring contracts in Stack and Croshere, both acquired by ridding of long term deals in Jamison/Daniels. Spending the MLE wisely splitting between 2 players with deals only from 2 or 3 years respectively. If he wasn't worried, Finley and Nash would still be here. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Basically a Van Horn and Stackhouse trade would be a Stackhouse for Martin trade and that really is a steal on Dallas's part. Big for small. Young(er) for old.</div> It's not a steal because Kmart is on the downhill as well, and creates a roster issue at the bigs. Tied up in three players with your entire cap is not smart nor good basketball wise as Kmart would get less playing time and with his head issues, a bad pickup. Also, Howard and Dirk are about to get extensions, adding Kmart, keeping Damp would kill us for years. There's a reason why Cubes has taken on expiring contracts, to make room for the extensions. Now I know this is a stupid deal by both sides that won't happen, but it seems like your trying to spin it in favor of Dallas, when in fact it's a bad deal talent wise and financially for Dallas. If Damp ain't going which he ain't, then there's no deal on the table. Because you should know by all those Stack rumors, they clearly state Dallas is not parting with him. Also, this rumor wouldn't bother me on here, if it wasn't posted like the third or fourth time by the same person, this time just mouthing out what he thinks.

Well I think they traded for Stackhouse more because he was a player that could come off the bench. When they traded for him he wasn't in the last year of his contract. While salary came into the decision to let go of Finley and Nash, I think age had as much to do with that. I've heard Cuban say that he wants to keep his team young(er) and more athletic.Martin is 29 I think. While not young, he is not old. I don't think he is on the decline as much as not being healthy and maybe in the wrong system. I think if he played for a players type coach (like Byron Scott was in NJ) rather then a pure dictator stuffy shoes guy like Karl it would make a difference. The reason I think Stackhosue is more expendable than you think is because they signed George who can play SG if needed and fill Stack's role. They also can play two PG's a lot (Terry at SG) with Johnson on the team now. I do think they sort of planned just in case they decided to trade Stack (maybe not ot the Nuggets, but to some team).

When they traded for him he wasn't in the last year of his contract.</div> Trade was made for the 5th pick in the draft, Stack and Laettner(who had only one year) had small contracts, especially in Laettner's case. But the trade rid of Jamison's long term contract and gave us room for Dampier later on. Stack I believe only had 2 or 3 years left. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>While salary came into the decision to let go of Finley and Nash, I think age had as much to do with that. I've heard Cuban say that he wants to keep his team young(er) and more athletic.</div> Finley was a salary move easy, that was the whole point of the amnesty clause. If there wasn't a amnesty clause, Fin would have been here. Because one his contract is untradeable, whose going to take on 50 mil deal for a past their prime shooting guard? No one. Nash also, Cubes said he would have resigned Nash but only at his price, he felt the long term deal would not be beneficial with Nash's health. Cubes was thinking about the tax and cap after all the long term deals he gave out, to Finley/Raef. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>The reason I think Stackhosue is more expendable than you think is because they signed George who can play SG if needed and fill Stack's role. Where we don't have to take on added contracts we don't need. Especially Martin's sh*tty contract, who would be coming off the bench behind our franchise player and a three headed center rotation. He just doesn't fit. Which was a reason you said Stack was expendable. So I don't get why you think Kmart should be here. Not getting the logic. Also, both Stack and Croshere should expire, Cubes again as I stated wants room for Dirk and Howard's extension.

Well we both agree that the trade is unlikey. We both probably over price the players our teams have.I will say that the three headed monster you have is not better than Dirk at center and Martin at PF 90% of the time. Yes they couldn't do that against shaq, but against almost any other team it would not be that big of a problem.Anyway, unlikely trade. Toughness is what Avery wants maybe he wants it in the front court?

Martin isn't the player he used to be with the Microfracture surgery. Dallas will lose rebounding and an interior prescence when Martin is in the game.

Toughness is what Avery wants maybe he wants it in the front court?</div> I haven't overpriced any of our players in this discussion. Stackhouse expires, and we'll need that for a reason. Why trade him for a long term contract whose best position is the same position as our franchise player? We've already gone through this with Jamison and Walker. And I could care less if Martin paired with Dirk is better then our center rotation. Being more talented doesn't mean great results, we just need guys who play their role without any bitching and play off our scorers. Those three centers do and can play in different matchups. Not only that, but their contracts are reasonable compared to Martin. But barring from all that, our three centers would still be here with that Stack trade, are you telling me that makes any sense? Also, you probably just don't include Benga but bottom line we resigned him to a three year deal to play, that Kmart trade makes his deal stupid. Again, trade makes no sense. And I don't understand your last statement. Are you implying Mavs aren't tough and need Martin? Because that's laughable. If we lacked toughness, we wouldn't have won so many close games last year.
