Interesting perspective. I will say, though, that she was in the lesbian relationship for nearly 10 years...and took on most of the family defending it. Maintained with vigor that she "loved" Deborah, while raising both of her children to adulthood alongside her lesbian lover.

Today, though, she claims it was entirely wrong "behavior" and has in fact, counseled others who struggle with the same types of issues. It's pretty wild, actually, to sit back and observe all she has encountered in her life. All that said, she's a sweet, sweet woman.....loved deeply by so many....including myself.

Yeah, it's really great in North Carolina where gays can't get married and thus can't visit their partners in the hospital. Sure, it's nice to joke about but there's nothing good about having limited rights. Think before you post .

Really?! That's craziness!! I'm gonna ask my fiance' (a nursing director) about that and why they might have cray-cray rules like that.

North Carolina voted against gay marriage and civil unions. If you think it's craziness, think about what you say/write and how you vote.

And then the Democrats held their convention there.

Question KS. Im conservative and i totally would accept the gay community as having the same rights in terms of, civil unions, tax breaks, visitations, etc. EXCEPT calling there union marriage. Is that still ok? or is it necessary we designate it as marriage?

The good news, though, is that gay marriage passed in three states last night and a sitting President in favor of gay marriage won re-election. The country is moving in the right direction.

If it's not marriage, then centuries of settled family/marriage law would have to be figured out for civil unions. Even a minute difference would be a 14th amendment (equal protection) violation.

What difference does it make to you what someone on the other side of the country calls their relationship? Or the people next door even?

+1. I'd write more, but it'd be redundant and exactly what you said.

On people's rights, yes I totally agree. In most other things, I completely and emphatically disagree (not that Romney would have fixed those other things). When it comes to love/relationships/families, keep the government the FUCK out. To me, it's sad we have to talk gay rights, equality, etc. We shouldn't even have to be having this conversation.

I'm glad you're on board for us having rights but when it comes to full equality in this country, gays must have the same rights to marriage as straight people. I like most of what you're saying though. I think I'm pretty conservative myself actually. I wish gay rights weren't an issue at election time. Then, I could feel comfortable to just focus on the other issues that affect everyone. The sooner we get our rights, the sooner that happens. The Republican Party needs to redefine themselves as the party for all and not just old white rich men. That is why they lost.

Exactly what I'm talking about. It's a stupid conversation to be having.

Not to derail my own thread, but they (Latinos) agree with you.

Agreed. Sadly, I admit, given the current environment, I don't have the convo enough with friends and family. But my friends and family know where I stand. My female cousin and her partner, as well as my male cousin and his husband, are very close to my wife and I. They watch our kids, love our kids, take great care of them, etc. they'd be great parents. Sadly, as they venture into foster parenting and adoption, we've had inquiries and had to vouch for their abilities, more so (IMO) than for straight couples. It's bullshit. Like I said, good parents are good parents.

It was a demonstration of how gay weather-control could help NC out during hurricane season... didn't translate at the polls though.
