I think traditionally there was no restriction on immigration. Immigration is a relatively new thing, circa the 1920s. The few immigration laws that were passed before the 1960s were all racially motivated. Can't let in any more jews or chinamen or whoever.

Republicans can and should consider denouncing the racist nature of immigration laws of any kind. That'd be the big win.

Exactly. I am not talking about giving them the right to vote, so there's no such strategy for taking over the country.

The problem is that illegals are usually low IQ and can't understand English. It'll drag down the schools dramatically. Its great if you need someone for a shovel ready job I guess, but nothing more.

It'll essentially be a swarm of locusts.

We've had immigration since before we're a country and people who didn't speak english. The school system did just fine.

You can't take different circumstances of the past (which aren't even remotely the same) and apply them to the present climate and say "hey, it worked now..we are a nation of immigrants". That is complete and utter bullshit and you know it.

Like I said, these illegals aren't the "best of the best", they are the poor, uneducated and working class of Latin American countries. Those that are actually qualified to contribute more than being weed pickers or fast food workers are coming in through the right channels. If you open up the borders, you're going to get a flood of low income, low IQ people who can't speak english, like I said.

Look what's happening in LAUSD schools, its like 85% latino now, 2nd and 3rd generations from the illegals that came here...now they are at the schools fucking shit up big time. You can't send kids to the schools because the quality of education has been absolutely decimated & racked to shit. Like I said, it'll be like a swarm of locusts, maybe your comfy and rich beachside community is safe for now, but the more you pack in, the more they're going to invade and poison the systems all around.

but the taco stands are great.

It's not utter bullshit, and immigrants of the past were dirt poor, uneducated, etc.

The makeup of the country should not be decided by some govt. panel of experts, but rather by who is actually here.

You simply describe why the education system is fucked up. So fix it.

And you don't need to be able to speak english to thrive here. You can learn rocket science or brain surgery in any language.

the migration of immigrants was regulated. that's the current system. the influx of illegals bypasses this regulated migration.

And you absolutely do need to speak english to thrive here. unless you're rich enough to hire a translator. as far as the US is concerned, spanish is the language of the poor working class, not those that thrive.

Totally agree here, our education system is fucked and needs an overhaul on what we are teaching. Most European countires require their students to learn at least two other languages, we should be doing the same. Kids learn this stuff fast. We should also be prioritizing personal finance, money managment, health, and nutrition. Birth control and realisitic drug education should be included in health. Increasing our physical education requirments wouldn't hurt either.

I've been to chinatown and there are plenty of people who speak little or no english. Yet they thrive.

If the hispanic people you don't seem to like couldn't thrive here, they wouldn't want to come here.

The problem is that illegals are basically the dregs of other countries. They take their values and raise their kids on these and they get injected into the school systems.

I'd start by having school districts hire teachers that fit in with the makeup of the population. 85% speak spanish? How about 85% of the teachers speak spanish, and 85% of the classrooms teach in spanish.

English should be taught. As a 2nd language. I took spanish and then french as 2nd language back in the 1960s and 1970s - I think we have the technology.

I also think high schools should teach two tracks - one for kids who want to go to college, and one that's skills oriented (shop, mechanics, home economics, etc.) for those who don't.

I do agree with you to a point. My girlfriend just moved here and is pretty frustrated with the Hillsboro system where her white kids are the minority. The thing is though, it is already a problem and reather than trying to fight a loosing batter we need to work with it. Immigrants built our country and the ones that come now may be lower class but their kids don't need to be.

Yeah, yeah, I've been to Mexico.

A rising tide lifts all boats.

The things you say about hispanics are what was said about the irish, jews, chinese, other asians, etc., all along.

Exactly. How many stories do you hear about someone's parents or grandparents coming here and working a shit job so their kids could have it better? Of course this is how any immigrant group would be.

and how many stories do you think exist of these same people taking over and fucking up entire cities with increased gang violence, crime, theft and drains on the the entire community. decrease in the quality of schools. overcrowding of public services and education.

If you keep letting trash in, you reap what you sow.

If you look at the overall net gains/losses of illegal immigration, I think that you will end up with a net loss every time.

To quote a wise man, "Immigrants built our country and the ones that come now may be lower class but their kids don't need to be."

It's a two way street. If you treat these people like trash, they're going to trash the place.

I only say they were trash because they were the lower dregs of their own countries. Its not like regular middle and upper class people are hopping the border, they are low skilled, uneducated workforce. I've dealt a lot with the upper class in Mexico and they absolutely loathe the lower classes of society ,the types that do go illegal. They really have no opportunity so they come here and become our problem instead of theirs. we're basically the receptacle for what they don't want in shitty borderline 3rd world countries.

But I'm sure it'll improve our quality of life. :MARIS61:
