I honestly thought that Mike Woodson would have a long lasting career with the Hawks since he did get them back into the playoffs after a long dry spell for several seasons. Larry Drew is ok but can he really give this team the edge needed for longevity?

Don't you think the focus needs to be more on the GM than the coach?

The Hawks have a roster that has been set up for mediocre-to-above average seasons for most of my recent memory.

I think Ferry finally has this roster headed in the right direction, in terms of getting rid of unnecessary salaries and cutting the fat. This probably won't be the season for the Hawks, in terms of wins or playoff success, and I'm sure Ferry knows that. You don't get anywhere wallowing in the middle.

He's probably waiting on making a major free agency or trade based on the way the season unfolds. (At least, that's what I'd hope if I were Hawks fan.)

    NOVoodoo,

Your points on Ferry are very valid and it is about time we got a GM that knows what he is doing. Results in more ticket sales and deeper playoff appearances.

In regards to the GM being the main focus, I disagree. Coaches require equal if not a bit more focus as well. Take for example the situation in Lakerland; the Lakers have managed to assemble a noteworthy starting lineup (with Nash, Bryant, Gasol and Howard) and a decent bench with (Jamison and Meeks); unfortunately Mike Brown was not able to utilize this talent in the best possible way to get wins.

Same with Doc Rivers in Boston. Great talent assembled but if the coach doesn't steer the vehicle in the right direction its going nowhere.
