Hibbert 8.7 ppg, 7.7 rpg Hickson 10.2 ppg, 10.7 rpg Of course, this doesn't take into account defense and Hibbert's shot blocking but wow. Looks like he doesn't care now that he's got his max contract. We might've lucked out.
Not comparing Hickson and Hibbert directly, but Hibbert is very overrated, with or without his slow start. I've been saying that for a long time... you guys dodged a HUGE bullet. He's like Marc Gasol, except... without the perimeter shooting, offensive court awareness, assists, and near perfect free-throw shooting. It used to piss me off when people would compare the two. There's a substantially large gap between them, as far as I'm concerned.
Now that Larry Bird with his Fitch/Auerbach smarts is gone, you may see some Pacers retrograde under Pritchard. Also, which retired star coached Hibbert, was it Abdul-Jabbar?
JJ has definitely been impressive this year, after they sign whatever free agents they want, i hope they can sign him up long term.
Hibbert is your prototypical journeyman center. He just happened to have a very good playoff stretch in a contract year and there are very few true centers currently. It shouldn't come as any surprise that his averages are very pedestrian.
Against lowly Charlotte, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist made Hibbert look 2' 7". http://www.eightpointsnineseconds.com/2012/11/mkg-mdk/
Thanks. I couldn't remember but I thought it might be him. He famously summer tutored another Pacers center, Ric Smits. This thing with Hibbert got less media notice than then.
