Awesome:

Skyler Phillips, 6-foot-3, 340-pound OG, Churchill HS (Eugene): Phillips was offered by the Beavers in June after a strong performance during their summer camp. He went on to have a solid showing at The Opening at Nike, where he went against some of the top defensive linemen in the nation.

"I love the atmosphere at Reser, love all the coaches, too," Phillips said. "Coach Riley sealed the deal for me. He is a great guy."

Skyler Phillips commits to the Beavers, who were the first to offer him a scholarship this summer

Skyler Phillips made official on Saturday what he has known for weeks.

The 6-foot-3, 330-pound Churchill senior gave Oregon State coach Mike Riley and offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh his verbal commitment to play for the Beavers after their win over Washington State.

“Everyone was really excited,” Phillips said before practice on Monday. “I had people talk to me that I had never met before saying ‘Congratulations.’ A couple fans congratulated me on Facebook and Twitter. I assume that is just a little bit of what is to come.”

Phillips did not play a full season of high school football until his junior year when he was an honorable mention all-Midwestern League selection on the offensive line. He impressed colleges during three scouting combines in the summer when he ranked among the top linemen in the country.

“Athletically, there is no question he can play at that level,” Churchill coach Darrell Mehl said. “With his lack of experience he has a lot of work to do. He is a very good football player with great feet, but he’s going to have to lose some pounds and it is going to get tougher because it is more of a job at that level. He’s got such great feet, it is unbelievable to see that big of a guy move.”

Oregon State was the first school to offer Phillips a scholarship on July 4 and while Oregon and Washington State showed interest recently, he was always leaning toward the Beavers.

“I like their degree program,” said Phillips, who plans to study psychology. “Coach Riley really sold me. He’s a great guy, a great coach, and I like where he’s taken the program.”

Phillips attended the wins over Wisconsin and Washington State.

“I can’t even explain how exhilarating it is to be in the stands,” he said.

Oregon State is 4-0 and ranked No. 10 in the country, but Phillips said that success only confirmed his decision to go to OSU.

“I made my decision before they had their success,” Phillips said. “Even if they had only three wins like last year, I always liked Oregon State and kind of knew when it came to recruiting that I would end up there. I made the decision a couple weeks ago, but my mom wanted me to wait and see what else would come. It was the right time and the right decision.”

Phillips said the coaches are excited to have him join the team in the fall.

“They said if I come in there and work hard, like I have been doing, I would fit right in,” Phillips said. “I will continue to give it my all during my four years there.”

A new commitment Beaver is Damien Haskins

CORVALLIS - Damien Haskins, a running back from New Boston, Texas, committed to Oregon State on Monday, according to online recruiting services.

ESPN gave Haskins three stars; Rivals and Scout gave the powerful 5-foot-9, 213-pound back two stars.

Haskins, who reportedly runs a 4.4, was formerly committed to Memphis and also received offers from Louisiana Tech and New Mexico.

The first running back commit in the class of 2013, which is now 10-deep, Haskins has rushed for 1,825 yards with 28 touchdowns in seven games this season for New Boston High School. He is averaging 13.1 yards per carry and 260.7 yards per game.

I'm actually not really impressed with this recruit. He doesn't really jump, bump, or twist his body to get extra yardage. He just kinda just runs.

Dashon Hunt would be a great steal for the Beavs. It looks like we have to wait more months.

Dashon Hunt, 5-foot-10, 175-pound CB from Westlake HS (Westlake Village, Calif.): Four-star prospect Dashon Hunt is currently ranked as the 28th top in California and is included in the Rivals250. Hunt holds double-digit offers from across the Pac-12, and by all accounts he enjoyed his trip to Corvallis. He's currently planning a trip to Cal.

Perhaps Hunter Jarmon WR might be headed to Oregon State. Lets hope.

The class is starting to look pretty solid -- a good couple adds over the last couple weeks. I just wish I saw more linemen on the lists.
