He sure is doing something right! I think he is the best QB in all of college football. I use to think we couldn't lose Barner and if we did we would be done. I think now by far we couldn't lose Mariota. Even though Bennett is a good backup I wouldn't think we could win many of the next 2-3 games depends if we even got to the Pac 12 Championship game.
MM didn't start out unpolished, he started out dominant and has been playing at a high level since. Game #1 in his career he went 18-22, 200 yards, 3 TDs, 0 Int all in the first half... of his 4 incompletes, 3 were drops. Arkansas St. Defensive Coordinator John Thompson may or may not have been a pubescent QB, but he does have 29 seasons as a college DC under his belt. Following Marcus's first game he lavished praise on him stating...“I thought he'd be more run than throw, but he's got a very live arm and is really, really accurate and has great touch. I was so impressed with him.” http://www.cbssports.com/collegefoo...-a-title-one-expert-is-now-convinced-they-are STOMP
Arkansas St and the Sun Belt are better then many people think around here. You check how good the Sun Belt Conf does against the Sec. Arkansas St is one if not the best team from that conference.
so the opinion of a college Defensive Coordinator with 29 years of experience (including many in the mighty SEC) pales alongside the opinion of everyone else posting here when compared to the keen insights you derived from playing QB as a pimply teen... thats what you're selling? Who cares that all your predictions seem to turn out wrong, what I want to know is if you can still throw it over a mountain? STOMP
Well, sort of. Mariota has still exceeded my expectations, so I was wrong. But he made a couple of dozen poor decisions in the loss. He also lost his composure. But still, as a freshman he has been a tremendous QB.
But that's not the point. We never said he wasn't a good QB. We both agreed that at some point he would get burned by a better defense later in the season, and boy did he ever. Stanford got so completely into his head, I don't think he could effectively run plays by the end of the game. He just kept scrambling and making bad throws. Johnny Manziel he is not.
But we were leading for most of the game! He couldn't play under pressure, which I totally did not see coming. I figured his laid back demeanor would work well in a pressure situation.... but I was wrong. He choked big time.
Anyone jumping on Mariota is a fool! Stanford D is freaking good and the play calling more than Mariota should be in question. Marcus could have played pitch and catch with Colt out there all game. I was shocked that we didn't put DAT and Addison in space more often not to mention Huff! The offensive coordinator holds a ton of this blame. Marcus will fix his mistakes and will rock the Beavers next weekend, bank on it!!!
