Submission of the night goes to Ivan Menjivar for his sickening armbar against Azamat Gashimov
Knockout of the night, obviously, will go to Johny Hendricks for his stunning, second straight one-punch KO over Martin Kampmann
Fight of the night will go to GSP and Condit for their 5-round battle of atrition

I don't think we saw the best of GSP tonight but after an 18-month layoff and major rehabilitation I think he did very well. Condit didn't fully engage with GSP as most of his opponents tend not to do, but he did put up a great fight and in round three demonstrated that he was the biggest threat GSP faced since forever. Kudos to Condit for sticking it out and to GSP for recovering and turning the tables in the third round in championship fashion.

Would've liked to have seen GSP work to side control or full mount but the torrent of blood coming from Condit's head made all of their scrambles unpredictable. GSP doesn't seem keen on blasting guys with punches and elbows from top control anymore, preferring to go body-head and pick his shots. I don't expect him to fight with reckless abandon but if he isn't looking to move to the most dominant positions or attack ruthlessly then he will never get the finishes he says he desires.

Johny Hendricks' knockout of Martin Kampmann was amazing. Kampmann historically has been easy to hit but usually in a brawling type of situation. Hendricks used his lead punch to swat Kampmann's hands and arms away from his head and followed up with a straight punch that leveled the Dane. Bombing out Fitch and Kampmann absolutely earns him the next shot at the title supposing Nick Diaz needs to get a win before his turn.

On that note I absolutely do not believe GSP wants to fight Anderson Silva and don't begrudge him for that. I don't think that in the ring after a tough fight with Condit was the time or place for him to make that decision (if he truly has put Silva out of his mind since booking the fight with Condit) so the UFC's choice to force it on him (and Goldy's constant insistence that GSP "looked HUGE" which was false and obvious) was a bit ham-handed.

Côté vs. Sakara will be controversial since Sakara seemed to have Côté on the ropes with those vicious horizontal elbows. He got overenthusiastic like Jon Jones and Erick Silva before him and snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. I'm not convinced that Big Dan actually stopped the fight to disqualify Sakara, though. I think that he stopped the fight then watched the replays and decided on the outcome. He easily could've stopped the fouling by jumping in. Regardless, the two will probably rematch sooner than later. I'm not a big Côté fan as he tends to fight a lot more conservative than people realize but he didn't deserve to lose by getting the back of his head pounded on.

This was Georges' second title unification and 11th championship victory, his seventh straight title defence and 23rd win in 25 fights. His two losses were both avenged (brutally). Anderson Silva might be the greatest fighter of all time but Georges has the best resume.

I don't know why some people think Georges can't fight through adversity. The first time he fought BJ Penn he was injured and fought through it for the best performance of his career up to that point. Serra finished him but GSP demonstrated again tonight that he can recover and conquer.

Two developments: there is no instant replay in Quebec so reviewing the tape can't happen--Big Dan had to make the call on the spot. Also, Sakara's manager is incensed (obviously) and they plan an appeal.

Yeah, GSP was excellent tonight in terms of fighting through that huge kick by Condit. First time in a long time we saw GSP is that much trouble.

As for a potential GSP vs Silva fight, I don't think GSP ends up doing it, it's just not a good match-up and there's little for him to gain to be in that much risk. GSP just doesn't have the power to stand with Silva and we saw that tonight, GSP hit Condit with some good, solid shots but couldn't put him away. He could wrestle Silva but Condit showed that it's possible to damage GSP from the bottom.

Ring & Philippou were both paid their show money and their fight will be rescheduled soon.

    Ouch. That seems pretty blatant.

Watched the fight alone so I couldn't bounce this off anyone else, but totally agree. He looked pretty much the same size as hes ever been to me. Goldy was completely full of shit.

I wonder what the ref was seeing there, it's so blatantly obvious they were to the back of the head.

John McGuire is moving up a weight class following his loss to Matt Riddle. How about that?

Alessio Sakara has lost his appeal and will not get his DQ loss to Patrick Côté overturned to a no-contest.
