Republicans, can I ask an honest question about racism

I'm just mocking those who are so easily hurt by other people being racist idiots.

 

Now you're putting words in my mouth and building another strawman.

It isn't racist to want to be with somebody that you have the most things in common with. I never said that. But if race influences how much effort is put into seeing how many things you have in common with somebody else, that is racist.

As for the voting, you can't possibly believe there was more of a difference in policy between Obama and Clinton in the 2008 primaries compared to other democratic primaries, that would explain a 95-5 (or whatever the exact number was) split in black vote. I know you're smart enough to realize and admit that. If there had been other demographics with a huge split, or other recent democratic primaries with a huge split, it could be plausible, but not a 95-5 split between two candidates that were actually very similar, policy-wise, as shown by all the other demographics at that vote.

Just because most people want to think it isn't racist unless you are hating somebody for it doesn't mean it isn't racist.

Prejudging a black person as being a better basketball player is racist, but it isn't based on hatred.

 

I'm not a wonderful person. I am an asshole. That being said, in no way, shape or form was I addressing your father, even if I responded to your post. My post was directed at all those people playing the victim. It's ridiculous.

We are arguably the most tolerant society on earth. When I lived in Sweden, there was a week-long expose in Dagens Nyheter, Stockholm's largest daily. The scandal? Stockholm had crossed the 10% "non-Swedish" barrier. And 70% of those "non-Swedes" were other Scans (Danes, Finns, Norwegians, Icelanders, etc.). It's easy to be "tolerant when everyone else looks like you. Try it when you have a significant minority population. The US is racial heaven on earth compared to almost every other country.

yes, I a Dem, and I started this thread. I was hoping to get some actual philosophizing on the subjects of race, politics and perception, but aside from a few posts, it was mostly just the same bickering for the sake of bickering. kind of sad, that two people with different views can't just have an honest discussion (not debate), but I suppose I should have known better. Especially thinking that the internet could be used for communication instead of just talking at each other.

Race is one of those issues that many are not honest with. They dont want to come off as being one, even though everyone has preconcieved notions. What I found interesting is the idea you believe that because I am financialy conservitive, that I am more prone to being a racist.

That could not be further from the t ruth. Ihave had an R on my reg from the 70s. I have never seen race as an issue in politics.

It has always seemed to me that the left likes to break every one down into seperate segments..theonly color business sees is green..

So, the truth is that if I was asked "do you think that someone who is financially conservative is prone to be more racist" I think I would answer NO. However, if I was asked the same question without the word financially in the question my answer would be yes. Interesting, but I think that it has to do with where I feel conservatism comes from. And these are just my thoughts, so please understand I am trying to be unfiltered here. I think there are two types of conservatives, the ones who are bound to their thinking for fiscal reasons, and the ones who are bound to their ideas for social or religious reasons. The ones in the second group, I perceive as being more likely to be racist. But the interesting thing is, if you flip it around and ask me the same question about the left, I don't think that I would associate social liberals with anything accept fighting racism.

Those above thoughts were not meant as an attack on anyone here and I am not claiming that my perception is correct. I do think there is more racism in the right, but I still think that it is a small group of vocal people.

I also see a lot of denying racism by most on the right when I think it is obvious. And this infuriates me more than the racism itself, because it is good people looking the other way because they don't have the backbone to call out someone who they generally agree with. Sure, if a politician or radio host called a black person an n-word, everyone would repudiate it, but when the politician or radio host says stuff that is more grey, but they always say stuff like that, it becomes obvious to me that it is just code words for racism. Calling Obama "not very smart" or calling Rice "not very smart". who else aside from those two black leaders have been called "not very smart" in the press.

I admit that I think there are more racists on the right than on the left (although we have our racists too). But, I beg of you, I am willing to shed that view if the average conservative or right winger (who is not racist) would just stop accepting racism from their politicians, pastors and entertainers.

 

White liberals who pretend to be down for the stuggle, and call "conservatives" racist, do piss me off.

Is that racist? Because white liberals who pull the race card are a joke to me.

I think it is fair to say that both sides have their crack pots. I am sure that the usual Dem is not in agreement with Rev Wright and his ilk, just as the usual R is not in lock step with nut cases. I can not think of one person I know that accepts racism.

As far as calling Rice "not very smart" , I can only speak for my self. I used to have a lot of respect for her. Allowing herself to be put in the position or injecting herself in the position that she is in, well, I dont care what color you are, it was dumb as shit. So, I would agree she was not very smart in this matter.



I know you are spitballing a bit when you claim that no Rs have never been tagged in the same light, I would invite you to rethink that...

Yeah, again not the average mind set on either side...I have not heard you proclaim the terrorists as being "freedom fighters"

 

The truth is that when the Rev Wright stuff came out, I never payed much attention to it because I saw it as just an attempt by the right to tarnish Obama. Perhaps that is exactly the problem, and I was as guilty as those whom I have impugned in this thread. I looked the wright as a fringe crackpot. However, Obama did unequivically denounce those statements, and that is what we should expect from our leaders. We need more civility in our governance, and that begins with leaders from both sides stating when commentators from their wing go batshit crazy.

I don't give a shit if they are freedom fighters, dog fighters or cancer fighters. Anyone fucks with the US and kills innocents, they are scum to me. I do understand that America has done bad things over the years, and I want to work to change that in the future, but violence against us is just never going to be an acceptable method to affect change.

Both sides have become so polarized, I have never seen such division...Ireally do think it stems from the breaking donw of our population into "segments" and pitting them aginst each other for election purposes..obama way masterfull in doing this..
