<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Nuggets close to trade dealBy Marc J. SpearsDenver Post Staff Writer The Nuggets are close to finalizing a trade that would send swingman Ruben Patterson to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for forward Joe Smith, NBA sources confirmed today. The Smith-Patterson deal is likely to be finalized no later than Friday. The arrival of Smith means the Nuggets probably will not go after Dallas free-agent forward Keith Van Horn because they fill the same role. Smith will make $6.8 million next season in the final year of his contract while Patterson will make the same in his final season. Smith averaged 8.8 points and 5.2 rebounds while shooting 47.5 percent from the field in 44 games for Milwaukee last season. The 6-foot-10, 225 11-year veteran was the top pick in the NBA draft by the Golden State Warriors in 1995. Smith has averaged 8.6 points and 5.2 rebounds over his career, including a career-high 18.7 points with Golden State during the 1996-97 season. He also has also played for Philadelphia, Minnesota and Detroit. Patterson's Nuggets career lasted only 26 regular-season games and five playoff games. The 6-foot-5, 224-pound forward was</div> WTF DO WE NEED PATTERSON FOR? I AM SO FRICKEN PISSED. As if the last trade was bad enough now this? :ranting: :ranting: :ranting: :ranting: :ranting:
Hey, you shouldnt be pissed. Ruben Patterson is a really good defender, and the Bucks will need a swingman like that. I like this trade for both teams actually, because the Nuggs already have Carmelo and Najera, and they need more big men.

Joe Smith was a great role player for us inside...Patterson is the last guy we need on this team with our young players. :no1:
<span style="font-size:10pt;line-height:100%">I think it's a horrible trade for the Bucks. They lost a cosistent, compotent veteran leader with Joe Smith. All they gained is a guy that is only known for his fading athletic ability. Ruben patterson is known for only a few things: Being on the Portland Jail-Blazers, getting his eye socket broken by a teammate, and opening his big mouth and saying that he could stop Kobe Bryant. Denver got rid of malcontent forward, now only if they could get rid of Kenyon Martin...........</span>
I don't like this trade for Milwaukee either. They're giving up probably their best interior defender and a good locker room guy for this head case. He should be a decent help though, like CB4 said he's a solid perimeter defender, but I don't like them giving up Smith.

I think it makes sense for both teams. Patterson helps out the Bucks by giving them depth at the small foward position. Also, by trading Joe Smith off, it will give Charlie Villanueava more playing time at the 4 spot. The Bucks only had David Noel and Reece Gaines as backup fowards. I think Patterson is solid at backup small foward. Joe Smith will help out Denver by giving them a body to play behind Martin. Now they have a good amount of quality players to play the 4 and 5 spots. Nene, Camby, Najera, Martin, and Smith. Now i dont think this move puts either team over the edge, but i think its a good quality move.

Bucks needed a proven wing player and they traded a guy who was playing behind Charlie/Bogut, Skinner can easily step in the leadership/vet backup big man role Joe Smith had. As for Nugs, I think this means their moving on from the Reggie Evans discussions.
Not exactly sure why the Nuggets do this. I guess this confirms JR Smith's spot in the starting lineup. Rok is right, I assume we will see Evans in a Cavs or Wolves uni next season.
My take from both sides:MilwaukeeEhh, I don't like it. Sure, Patterson is very tough and an excellent defender, but Smith is a veteran leader, a smart player, and very solid. The Bucks need that reliable source downlow, even if he would be comming off the bench. I don't think this was a great decision by Larry Harris.DenverInteresting. I like it, but I kind of don't. I like it because they get a veteran big man who will be a great mentor-type guy for Nene. I don't like it because this team struggles with perimiter defense, which Patterson brings. But - I think this is leading to a deal involving K-Mart. No way Denver can find good minutes (and keep K-Mart happy.. ha..) for Martin, Nene, Smith, and Camby. Nene just got a $60M deal and is obviously their PF of the future, he needs to start (or at least get starters minutes). Smith needs a good 18-20 mpg, K-Mart will not like having an extra veteran big man to compete for minutes with (aside from Camby and Nene). So, I think a K-Mart deal is brewing (and this deal definitely supports this), and I think it's safe to say that Evans is signing elsewhere (Cleveland?).The winner of the deal was Denver because they added a veteran big man presence to come off the bench (and also be a positive influence on Nene) and also set themselves up for another deal, as this makes Martin more expandable. Milwaukee added a tough perimiter defender, but I don't like the idea of giving a veteran big man for him. They need an influencal big man to try and help CV and Bogut the ropes.
Being dutch I only hope for one thing: Dan Gadzuric to get the hell out of Milwaukee. He needs to play.
Bad move by the Bucks, who lose more big men. Good move by the Nuggets if they get rid of Reggie. They already need to fill the void of Francisco Elson. The Nuggets are more than likely done, but still need a shooter.

I think that Dan Gadzuric is actually a very good defensive backup. He fouls alot, but can be a helpful backup.
