Watching this Raptors vs Rockets game and it just looks like Lin was a "flash in the pan" as my pops would say. Wondering what your rankings are since our up and coming star is a PG. Not looking at stats, here are mine...... DWill CP3 Rose Rondo Westbrook Tony Parker Dame Irving Wall Holiday
Seven seems about right for Lillard. That's exactly where I pegged him when thinking about it recently. But, that top-6 is a complete crap shoot. And no way is DWill #1. He should be at the bottom of that top tier, even with Parker.
You could make an argument for who the top 5 could be. Those guys are all about the same. You aren't a DWill fan? Had you told me our pick from this past draft would be a top 10 PG a month into this season, I would have thought you were crazy though.
I love Lillard and all. Think he can be top 3 PG possibly someday. But, there is now way you can put him ahead of Irving right now. Also, Holliday has been playing great this year. He's still ahead of Lillard. Lillard has to prove himself more.
I like Deron, but he's not the game changer he was 4 years ago. All those other guys in the top 6 dominate nightly. I was firmly on the Lillard bandwagon over the summer, but I agree, I probably wouldn't have predicted top-10 status this early. I certainly didn't figure he'd be making us forget about Nash already.
I think it's too early to judge Damian right now. He needs to prove he can be this good for at least a year. He's only played 14 NBA games. Look at Lin last year, when he played over a month of great ball and now he just looks average.
It's going to be easier to determine where Lillard fits by the end of the season: right now, the Blazers are 1-8 when Lillard's ORtg is below his DRtg (the win against the Lakers where they lost Nash after a half). Basically, if he gets outplayed by his opposition, we lose. If he outplays them, we win. From there we can kind of determine his floor as a point guard based on the worst PG who he outplayed.
Oh, i love Kyrie's game...... I just think Dame is more under control. (Didn't look at head to head stats) just my opinion.
I'm surprised there has been no mention of Dragic. He has been playing great this year. The truth is the PG position is very deep.
Rondo Rondo Rondo Rose at 100% Nash (if same as last year) Chris Paul Deron Williams Tony Parker Damian Lillard Russell Westbrook ******************** Jrue Holliday Kyrie Irving Jeremy Lin Kyle Lowry
It's pretty stunning how many high quality point guards there are in this league now. A decade ago it seemed like there was Kidd and Payton, and a pretty steep dropoff to Andre Miller and Bibby and me-first guys like Steve Francis and Marbury. I don't feel like I've watched enough of the current crop of PG's to truly evaluate them against Lillard. I would venture to say that Damian may have the most complete game of all but a couple of those guys. He's got size, speed, perimeter shooting, passing, athleticism....he still defends like a rookie and he lacks NBA experience, but those are less concerning holes in comparison to, say, Westbrook's me-first attitude or Rondo's perimeter shot or Nash's age or Rose's health.
As 2 have mentioned now, PG is relatively deep. I mentioned that a while back, someone talking about how it's the most difficult position to fill. A top 10 list of PGs looks SOOOO much better than a top 10 list of SGs, IMO. Hell, probably a top 15 list of PGs.
