^ Diaz came in at 155.6-lbs., or 0.6-lbs. overweight. He was granted time after the weigh-in to get down to 155-lbs. and did so, therefore the title will still be on the line.

Henry Martinez missed weight and will forfeit 20% of his purse to his opponent.

Why did I think you were allowed to be a pound over? I.e. a 205er could weigh in at 206 and be ok? Am I completely delusional or was it not always this way?

You're right, but not for title fights.

Re: UFC on FOX 5: Henderson vs. Diaz (Dec/8)

Few thoughts on tonight's stellar free show...

Dennis Siver stomped Nam Phan. Very impressive performance. Surprised Phan didn't try harder to get the fight to the ground. Siver looks like he'll be great at featherweight.

Nice to see the veteran Yves Edwards pick up a win. Surprised Jeremy Stephens is still so young (26). Probably won't set him back much since he seems destined to float around the middle to upper middle tier of the LW class.

The bad Mike Swick showed up tonight. The drawn out, awkward, tentative one. From the match making it looked like they were setting him up with an opponent he could put a highlight on. Dunno why Swick is so inconsistent. Also, he is officially punchy at this point. Dunno where he goes from here since Brown has one of the most mediocre records in the UFC. Fighting noobs?

I didn't think Rory MacDonald's striking was great coming into tonight's fight with BJ Penn. Actually, it isn't great to look at--very herky jerky and sometimes loose and wild. Yet, very effective. They were pretty even just before the four minute mark or so of the first round when MacDonald landed a few damaging blows and from that point on the fight was a squash. Very much like the Nick Diaz fight for Penn, who is doing so much harm to his reputation at this point that he might quit for good. He's making it seem like his greatness was so rarely demonstrated that it might not have existed. MacDonald's showboating won't win him any new fans but I don't think he gives a flying fuck. The rematch with Condit should be booked immediately and I imagine he'll do more damage to Condit than GSP. After that? I dunno. If GSP & MacDonald won't fight, they'll need to belts in the division.

Shogun put on a strong effort but if he was waiting for Gusto to tire his plan didn't work out so well. Gustafsson is a 205-lbs. version of Dominick Cruz, constantly in motion throwing punches kicks and knees from wild angles. I don't think there were too many moments in the fight where Shogun looked comfortable. I don't have high hopes for Gustafsson in a title fight with Jon Jones but that doesn't really take anything away from him as a fighter. Clearly he has moved into the elite in the division. A rematch with Phil Davis would be interesting to see and a good indicator of how much Gustafsson has grown since that (lone) loss.

Par for the course with Bendo/Diaz. Expected Bendo to use leg attacks and dump Diaz whenever the striking got too tight. Nate's style is easy to prepare for and apparently easy to deal with for the champion. I think Gilbert Melendez is a better match-up for Bendo at this point as he is at least equal to Bendo's wrestling and power. An Anthony Pettis rematch is also intriguing.

Nate Diaz was never able to get comfortable. Awesome performance by Bendo, but I just don't like the guy. I don't like the fact that he fights with a tooth pick tucked away in his mouth, either. Fucking dangerous and I think he should be fined heavily for that stupidity.

Shogun knows how to take a fucking beating. What is next for him though? Whose next for him?

Rory McDonald, don't like him, but he dominated Penn. I'd like to see Rory/Condit again. Hell, maybe even Rory vs Fitch? I wanna see how he can take an elite wrestler.

BJ needs to hang them up or move down to 155. For his sake, I'd like to see him just hang it up.

Rafael Assuncao was able to defeat Mike Easton despite fighting from the first round onward with a broken arm.

I don't think Edgar wants any more of Bendo. He'll stay at 145 for a while.

Diaz vs. Penn would be great but they are buds so I dunno if that will ever happen.
