That's a truckload of age. Do you think the Spurs are too old to get back to the finals? I'm convinced.
The players that matter are Duncan, Parker, and Ginobili and they are 30, 29, and 24. I think they still have it but aren't as good as last years team or the year before.
They can still play. They might be slowing down, but they play a slow tempo of basketball, so that should help.If they are too old, the Spurs have amazing scouts so they can get steals in the draft. Plus, free agents love to play for a contender, and the Spurs are going to be contenders for a long time. Popovich knows how to win.

That may be true, but there something called a bench. the Spurs must have the oldest bench in the NBA.

They haven't had a decent draft in a very, very long time (that's two very's).they drafted Beno when they could've had Anderson varejao or Chris Duhon. If they don't make a move soon, they will dive head-first into rebuilding mode. The kinhs were in the same situation a couple years ago, and they traded C-Webb, and christie, and Bobby Jackson. Divac retired as well, and the Kings saved themselves from bein at the bottom of the standings.
I'm pretty sure Nick Van Exel is retiring which explains why they picked up Jacque Vaughn.
QUOTE

It's still one of the best benches.Finley, Van Exel, Butler, Barry, Horry, Udrih
Udrih is still unproven, and Van Exel shouldn't be listed. Finley, Barry and Horry are on the decline and only Finley really showed me anything during the playoffs. It's mediocre.
I agree with most everything in this thread, honestly. The Spurs are getting pretty old, but they aren't going to just disappear. They still have a relatively young core in Duncan, Manu, and Parker. You can put essentially anyone around them and have a winning team, but the Spurs have put an especially talented bench behind them. However, I do agree that it will be a problem in the near future. They have had good drafts in the past, but not a whole lot recently. Hey, I realize they picked up some great players in Manu and Parker in the draft. I'm not ignorant to that. But it has been a while since they picked those guys up, and since then they have drafted quite a few players that have remained unsigned. If they get those guys signed, then they will be ready to go. Right now however, they might be setting themselves up for disaster.
i think it's a combination of them being old, and just the other teams on the rise. The Mavs, Suns, and Clippers will all be VERY good next year, tough to beat. I'm not so sure the Spurs can keep up.
no, they arent too old to go back to the finals again. Like mavsfan said, their main guys are all 30 or younger so as long as they play well, the spurs as a whole are fine. They do need to find some youth though or they are not going to be able to compete with some of the other teams in a few years. I still believe as a Spurs fan that they COULD make it back to the finals this year but it wont be easy. Manu Ginobili and Tim Duncan both have to be near 100 percent healthy IMO. Also, Tony just got another year under his belt and he wont do anything except get better....The Spurs could still do it, but it will just be a little bit harder.
Udrih is a very young and promising rookie to look forward to in the future. Parker is still young, and Manu is just in his prime. Duncan may be the one who's suffering here, with that big injury last year that was affecting his game mightily in the regular season. You build championship teams with experience, and the Spurs have done that. They need to build around that team with youth and talent.

Manu Ginobili is on the decline. This team will get swept by injuries.

It surprised me the first itme I saw it but not anymore. They'll still be very good but not what they used to be. Wow, I thought Oberto was a young guy they brought up to be their next big man, eh... they are very old.
i personally thought that it was YOUNG for duncan. I thought he was like 33. Still a few more years before his decline >:/ And ginobili is already 29, that was interesting the first time I saw it, but it's good
Drafting in the late twenties and having a tight cap due to being a dominant team can have it's effects over time...This team has this season and next to do damage and then in my opinion it's over.
Well yeah. i think it's unanimous that ths Spurs need to make a change. But I don't have anyh ideas. i don't see Michael Finley, Brent Barry, jaque vaughn, and Oberto as trade bait.
