He spoke an hour on how the House must agree to his terms on the fiscal cliff; then about 10 minutes on gun control.

Never let a crisis go to waste.

I have never seen a more political, venal, corrupt and callous administration in my life. No issue is too awful for them to exploit politically. They couldn't give a whit about this country going into a deep recession, as long as the Republicans are blamed. They don't care about exploiting the lives of 20 dead six and seven year old kids if it gets them the gun control they've always wanted.

The Bush Administration was for Big Government and Social Conservatism, two things I despise. I didn't think I could dislike an Administration more, but the Obama Administration has been nothing short of terrifying. What they can't achieve by passing laws, they simply enact through Executive Order or regulation. Liberty is something taken for granted by this country, and we've lost a ton of it since September 11, 2001.

To be sure, I support gun control- even radical gun control. But to hit hard on gun control and not touch mental illness detection and treatment (I wonder where the money went to that used to be spent on that?) and the shocking levels of violence in video games/TV/movies/music makes this look like a pure political expedient vote grab. Almost like cashing in on this unspeakable tragedy.

    Not almost like, exactly like.

There should be an all out uproar about the lack of mental health care but instead it's all about cars. Dude drove a car there so we've got to put a tight trip-mileage limit on cars so nuts like him can't reach a mall or school or theater or church or arena from his home. And hold the manufacturer liable if the car is used in a crime.

Does anyone remember President Obama saying that there was no need for more gun control during the Obama/Romney debates?

Please. You want to tell me that if there was a discussion of mental illness detection and what it would cost to implement it there would not be a cry about ObamaCare and big government?

The political vote grab and bickering is not just a one sided thing, unfortunately...
