No one is against people under 18 not being able to play m rated games, what is at issue is the NRA trying to deflect the blame off of guns and scapegoat other things.

I think the concept of violent video games are the cause of these crazy shootings is seriously reaching. There have been mass murders throughout history long before a video game ever existed. What I see wrong with video games are children aren't as active as they were and become unhealthy and fat. They aren't motivated to do productive things like ride their bike, homework, study, etc. I disagree that the video games are what is the driving force for violence.

The NRA shouldn't be blamed either. Like they shouldn't try and advocate that video games are the stem of violence.

If I were the NRA, I would rather put more energy in their advertising and newsletters to promote proper handling and storage so the youth doesn't grab the guns and kill themselves or others. Maybe they do; so I won't hold judgement on that part.

Mags is kind of on to something here, i went outside and played basketball too, but also probably could have spent more time out there instead of playing games and watching tv. I think the media fear mongering may lead to parents not letting their children outside too though.

Rather than point at guns or video games directly, would it not be reasonable to suggest that our culture has an unhealthy fascination with violence in general?

Whether it be the proliferation of firearms, the preponderance of violent games/movies, or the media glorification of violent criminals, all of it is symptomatic of a society that has become desensitized to violence.

To me, it seems like blaming guns or games for violence is akin to blaming your cough or your fever for making you sick. We can focus on the symptoms all we want, but the root of the problem is much deeper IMO.

    Taking away guns solves little.

It takes away a possible means to an end, but it doesn't fix the core (or root) problem. Take away guns, and there's still potentially a shooting like the one in Sweden. Or how about the dude in China that attacked a bunch of children with a knife recently?

Until we attack the core issue, these types of events will continue to occur. Blaming the NRA makes very little sense.

As someone who has played video games and watched violent movies my whole life, I do wonder if it hasn't desensitized me to violence. Does it make me want to go out and kill a lot of people? No, but does it maybe lessen the overall impact of those deaths? Possibly. It amazes me how quickly people make jokes about things like that.

Of course, the solution might actually be restricting and smothering *some* people, in which case...

I don't know if this makes any sense, but i have been desensitized to "fake" violence in games and movies, but not real violence. I still don't like the sight of real blood, and can't stand how fucked up shit in the news is. I couldn't even hunt with my uncle when i was a teenager.

Guns are inanimate objects. A gun will stay where you put it and won't go firing on its own.

It's just downright silly to blame the inanimate object.

The NRA is a fine organization and LaPierre should have simply taken the high road. "It's a free country. We are here to train people in gun safety and encourage all law abiding citizens that want to own a gun to own that gun. Whatever the cause of people becoming crazed and abusing guns is a problem with society and not our place to address."

"Elections have consequences. Don't blame guns, blame whatever it is your government has made society into."

in China they don't have the right to have a gun and a violent crazy person went on a stabbing spree and no one died. 0 dead vs 26. I'm far from advocating taking away all guns, but banning assault weapons and large capacity clips to be very sensible/obvious step to reducing the amount of times this continues to happen. So does closing the gun show/no background check loophole and requiring the registration of all guns.

In China, the govt. runs over peaceful protesters with tanks.
