He did foul out, but that was more about him being a bench scrub than it was anything else. I liked his effort on defense.

Will the Blazers regret not picking up his option next year? He's looking like a decent stretch 4 with a small bench unit, and with Hickson's UFA status, the Blazers could have two holes to fill in the rotation that didn't really need to be a concern if they had made different decisions on those two players.

Could have picked up Luke's option
Could have offered Hickson at least two years, or even three with a player/team option.

We must retain Babbitt. Do we have his Bird rights?

Yep, but by not picking up his option, he's free after this season to go where he pleases.

Fuck. I'm not asking if he's FA. I'm asking if we can go over cap to sign him.

Which is why I posted "yep". Bird rights are retained, but I already answered that question.

No problem. I could see how you thought I was answering "yep" to you thinking that Babbit should be retained, which I agree with as well!

I wonder if not picking up his option is affecting his play at all this season? He's out to prove he belongs in the league.

I thought he proved he was an NBA player last season. But he started this season playing and shooting very poorly and got buried on the bench. Glad he's getting a chance to play himself now.

As for whether we should have picked up his option or not. I think management is still infatuated with the idea of signing a big free agent, so we'll see how that turns out.

Slightly OT, but Babbitt and Leonard have virtually identical rebound rates (11.7 vs 11.8) Don't know if that is a good or bad thing, lol.

But yeah, Luke is looking like decent cheap option for a back-up sf/ stretch pf depending on the matchup. Nice to see him playing well.

He's just now showing that he is a semi-serviceable 8th man. We have bigger things to worry about than regretting not picking up his option.

He has that rare combination of top shooting and top rebounding. How much should we offer him? It will take somewhere between $8 and $9 million per year.

    Small sample size.

That being said, I like what I've seen the last several games. I haven't been high on him the last year, but he seems to be improving. Not yet sold, but I hope he proves me wrong. Deep threats are important on top teams. He's rebounding, too. His D is still weak. He has shown he can move with the ball some. And I thought he showed some smarts on Dame's game-winner.

Id love to bring him back cheaply at like 3 a year for 3 years. I think he can be a solid bench player. Id love to spend big bucks on a top FA then go over the cap for hickson and babbit.

Cap holds. So our cap space is limited unless we renounce them.

Ah shit I forgot about that. Babbits is 4 mill and hicksons is 7m I believe. So we might keep babbit with the minny mle but no way we can keep hickson and still offer a big contract to someone.

The problem with keeping Aldridge and Hickson is that for each, his style of play is incompatible with Babbitt.

    I forgot earlier, too.

Let's screw Minnecrappolis. Let's go after Pek. He's worth solid skrill.

Id offer him 4 year 40m. If they dont match we get a nice C on a tradeable contract if leonard develops faster then expected.
If they do match luxery tax for them.
