Who are the best players on offense AND defense. Players that instantly come to mind are Ron Artest, Tim Duncan, and Kobe Bryant. But who is the best?

In my opinion it has to either be Tim Duncan or Shawn Marion because they both put up points in a hurry, rebound the ball very well, and play great man to man and team defense which is why they never have a bad game. The bright side of having a 2 way game is that you'll never have an off game so if the shot isn't falling you can always make that up with rebounds, blocked shots, and defense on the other end of the court.

Tim duncan. He's offensive game is superb and his defense most of the time is superb also. Great post defender and has the best post moves in the league.

I'm going with the post player in this case, Tim Duncan, because a big man anchors your defense. Bruce Bowen wouldn't be quite so good if Duncan wasn't behind him waiting for the player every time. Then, on offense, he also is the center of everything. He attracts double-teams, even without the ball, which obviously frees someone up. A guard/perimeter forward cannot do either of those things.

Hmm?Andrei Kirilenko, Kevin Garnett, Tayshaun Prince, Tim Duncan, Chauncey Billups, Kobe Bryant, Shawn Marion.imo it goes to Tim Duncan though. He is probably the best or one of the best post defenders in the League, and the best offensive post player in the League, with a decent jumper too.

Ron Artest and Gary Payton of the 90's. Marion is a great player to add to this list.

I'm surprised Jason Kidd hasn't been mentioned, he's a top notch defender and one of the best passers in the league.

Kobe Bryant - I believe he's probably the best perimeter player in the League, top defender at the 2, arguably the best scorer.

Out of all of the bigmen, I am going to go with the obvious choice in Tim Duncan. He has been selected to First Team All Defense for at least 5 years if I remember correctly. He is a magnificent shot blocker, and off side defender as well. His offensive game is very fundamentally sound. He has some of the best footwork in the game and his post moves are also very good. He has a great 15-17 foot bank shot and his hook shot isnt that bad either. The only thing he really needs to work on are his freethrows and getting healthy. The best 2 way guard is easily Kobe IMO. He was selected to first team all defense this year, and he is a very good man to man and perimeter defender. He can rack up the steals as well. On offense, well, he is easily one of the best offensive players in the league. He has an amazing 3 pointer, mid range, and drive to the basket. There is nothing that the guy cant do on offense.

Kobe doesn't seem like the lockdown defender you guys are talking about. He definately is the best scorer, but I am not so sure about his defense. He wasn't even mentioned in the best defender thread. For 2-way players, I'd say Payton of the 90's, MJ, Duncan, Marion, and Artest over Kobe due to defense.

Not sure though.

He has good footwork on defense and his instincts are great. By that, I mean he is good at getting in passing lanes and exc. He is a solid man to man defender. He isnt as good as Bruce Bowen or Ron Artest but he is a good defender.

Now since his knees are going to get better, you will see kobe of 2004. I have nevr seen a better defensive preformance by one person against what he did to tmac.

I remember that. Tmac had like 37 points at half time and Kobe only gave him one in the second and overtime. Great performance. I'd say Ron Artest or Kobe Bryant.

Kobe is one of the best!! At the moment he seems to have lapses but that is because he if often helping his less effective teammates. When he goes out to stop a player he does.

Pippen and Artest are the 2 that combine when it comes to being the best 2 way players. Jordan had defensive lapses so I didn't put him as being great on both sides.

I would have to say Pippen as well, his time with the Blazers really proved how smart of a player on both sides of the court he was, and his time with the Bulls proved how great he was on both sides.
