Memphis is supposedly shopping him to get under the tax: http://nba.si.com/2013/01/04/rudy-gay-trade-rumors-grizzlies-court-vision/ We could package Wes & a bunch of expirings like Babbitt, Williams, Smith and a draft pick or two. I would do it! I would feel better about a trade like this than taking our chances at free agency and missing out again. If not Gay, maybe someone else....but I do think a trade is the way to go when spending our cap room.
I was waiting for this this thread I almost made one yesterday. We would have to deal Aldridge. I don't know about a package of Hickson and Mathews. Also do you like a backcourt of Lillard, Batum and Gay?
Gay is overpaid. There is no secret about that. I doubt Memphis is expecting an all-star big man in his prime in return. I actually think Wes would be a nice replacement for them, throw in some expirings and draft picks.....I don't think it's that far off.
Not of fan of RG. He's shooting 41% overall and 33% from three. All for a paltry sum of $16.5 per year, long term. Go Blazers
ick having worst season since his rookie year (15.3 PER, abysmal .485 TS%), never known as great defender or leader, still owed almost 50 million over next 2.5. there's a reason he's being shopped.
All else being equal, I might take a Gay for Wes swap. But add in the money and no way. rudy and Wes comparison
Maybe a better option would be to get one of Utah's bigs. One of Millsap or Jefferson could easily be moved to save money and make way for Favors. I'd be all for getting one of them.
Speaking of... Favors is now in year #3 to "arrive." He's never looked as good as Drummond does now and he's received much more hype.
Yep. Not a fan of Gay and becoming a bigger fan of Matthews every game. Our problem is bench and center and defense. Which of these problems does Gay solve?
Problem with making trades at the moment is were so damn thin at every position that if we trade the guys with value outside of Leonard then were short a starter. So we'd basically have to trade a starter for pretty much another player who can play that position. Trades like that are never really enticing especially when the player most likely to go (wes) doesn't have amazing trade value and his defense would sorely be missed for anyone we could trade him for.
Ya right Gay is the grizzlies second best player. Memphis probably values him like Portland values Batum.
