Re: UFC is safer than NFL Pretty sure that's how all the great debaters end their diatribes, by saying "fact" and crossing their arms. Flawless. Dana is a master (debater).
Re: UFC is safer than NFL BTW this kinda looked like a serious injury but I guess Dana means like paralysis or brain damage. Speaking of brain damage, former UFC fighter Gary Goodridge has it, though I guess you can't just pin it on his UFC career because he fought overseas and kickboxed.
Dana can say all this stuff now because MMA is a relatively young sport and anyone that might have brain damage from the sport won't be famous enough for anyone to give a shit and make it a big scandal. But if you look at boxing, a close cousin of MMA, you see a lot of guys in that sport suffer head injury problems later in life. We might hear similar things about MMA 5-10 years down the road from guys like Randy Couture or Chuck Liddell. Fuck, Chuck already walks around and talks like he has brain damage.
They say that boxers are getting hit in the head every day in training and MMA fighters (mostly) don't do striking every day, but every day vs. four or five times a week, it's still going to add up.
