A lot of people blame BJ Penn's training and his corner men for him never reaching his potential but in reality he is the master of his own destiny and the decisions he has made, not those by his peers and mentors, have been the determining factor in his career. His recent feud with Firas Zahabi and Tri-Star Montreal, which included two rounds of steroid accusations against the camp by Penn, apparently hasn't soured Zahabi's opinion of Penn. Zahabi recently invited Penn to travel to Montreal and join his club in hopes that they can reinvigorate the mercurial Hawaiian's career (presumably) at a lighter weight class. While he doesn't say it outright, Zahabi hints that the reason for Penn's recent struggles (1-4-1 in last six) could be due to poor training and conditioning habits, being in too much of a comfort zone, and having the wrong people in his ear.

Penn trained with Matt Hughes. Dan Hardy came to Tri-Star in 2012. It's not such a strange idea. At this point any stable camp would be a major improvement over his current training and coaching situation. He's 34, in the twilight of his career, but can still be a top-5 fighter at 155- or even 145-lbs.

If Penn wants to continue his career he needs to drop weight. He'll get dominated by any top 10 guy at 170 IMO. 155 or 145 is where its at for him.
