Ryan Verbeek's first OHL goal stood up as the winner and Jaroslav Pavelka made 38 saves for his first shutout of the season, as the Spitfires beat the Brampton Battalion 3-0 on Thursday night in front of 5,818 at the WFCU Centre. The victory snapped the club's seven-game losing streak and moved the Spits to within five points of idle Saginaw for eighth in the Western Conference. Emerson Clark (4) and Ben Johnson (10) had the other goals for Windsor (15-19-1-5). Alexander Khokhlachev had his first point of the season and Alex Aleardi his first as a member of the Spitfires. Pavelka was outstanding, stopping 15 shots in the first period, 12 in the second and 11 in the third. Matej Machovsky took the loss in goal for Brampton (19-17-3-4), stopping 13 of 16 shots he faced before he was replaced by Jake Smith (13 saves) to start the third period. The Spits hit the road for a pair of games this weekend; Saturday in Belleville and Sunday afternoon in Oshawa.
