Al J's recovery from ankle surgery seems shaky, yet well paced. He seems to be making a lot of progress but some of these comments scare me a little. Since his ankles are weak, he had to shed some pounds, I think he's already thin as it is, I'd like to see him bulk up a little bit more but apperantly he can't really do that. By the way I'm typing these quotes from the actual Globe newspaper so forgive me if there are spelling errors."On August 3rd, the Celtics announced that Al Jefferson had undergone "minor arthroscopic surgery" on his right ankle a day earlier. Late last week, Jefferson reported that he had bone chips removed and he now spends most of his days lounging around watching music videos, with his right leg elevated. The Celtics medical staff treats the ankle with ice and massage. 'I have two choices' said Jefferson, who is walking around on crutches. 'I can lay around on my bed or I can lay around on my couch. So I rotate"~Boston GlobeThat scares me a little bit to think a guy at such a crucial part of his career is lounging around before training camp but then again there isn't much he can do about it. It's a tough situation.(Jefferson on his rehab)"They're saying 6-8 weels from the time of surgery (August 2nd), but who knows because it's going quicker than expected right now. I'm going to be ready for training camp. I'm not going to say I'm going to be in the best shape when training camp starts, but by the time training camp ends, I'll be able to get myself into the shape I want to be in."That's good news I guess..atleast he feels confident about being fine by the time training camp ends and pre-season is starting to get into gear. It also had some stuff about how he changed his diet and quit eating fatty foods. He has his own personal chef now. And also he is working out on a stationary exercising bike and is still doing upper body lifting. These ankles are giving this kid one hell of a battle, I hope he can overcome it.This week's sunday globe also had a huge article on Sebastian Telfair, along with another whole page about Al J and Theo Ratliff. I'd suggest you C's fans go pick it up, it's a really good read.
can he not do any upper body work or anything? I don't want him laying around, but like you said, there's nothing we/he can do.
He played in the summer league after he got his surgery didn't he ? He played pretty good but things like this is always scary news.
I don't like the sound of this at all, his progress so far has been dissapointing and now you have this right before the season. Hopefully this is cleared up.
idk if you can consider this "right before the season" tho. We still have about two months to go. But this will definitely slow him down. What i don't get is, why didn't hejust have the damn surgery earlier?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>What i don't get is, why didn't hejust have the damn surgery earlier?</div>Yeah I was thinking the same thing, he did play in the summer league, I would have rather seen him sat out and had plenty of time to rehab instead of playing in five pointless games that mean nothing.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>can he not do any upper body work or anything?</div>It said he is still doing his regular upper body routines, so atleast his upper body is still going to be in great shape. Unfortunately, his ankles seem to be f*cked.I'm banking on Gomes to have a huge impact this year. I hate to say this, because I love AL J and I love his potential but he might be an unfortunate case of a high school player just not being ready to make the jump. I think he would have benefited playing a few years in college, building up his body, and getting used to the constant basketball training. I don't care what anyone says about this, Al J's endurance has never really improved at all, he always looks winded after he's been out on the court for a short amount time. And also, his ankles have been giving him constant trouble and I don't think this surgery is going to be his last. A 20 year old kid with bone chips in his ankles? This doesn't look to good.
I couldn't agree more. Al jefferson's situation just seems to get worse and worse, making me more doubtful. I can honestly say that i think Gomes is the future at PF for us. Let's just assume for a second that neither Al nor Green develop into all-star calibur players. It's so comforting, bc we still have a future! Delonte will be a hell of a leader for the squad, as will Sebastian Telfair, and likely Perk on the defensive end. This team will stil have loads of talent. I can almost guarantee that Delonte, Perk, Gomes, and Tony Allen will grow to be more than solid players in the future, and Telfair and Rondo have very bright futures. sorry for getting off topic. But this also makes me think.. I really don't think we'd be that bad off giving up BOTH Al and Green in a deal for a superstar. Sure, they have loads of potential, but we still have lots of young talent, and more importantly, they are able to contribute now.
totally agree dogma, this team has an endless amount of positive scenarios for the future with all of our young talent. I still to this day can't believe we drafted Gomes in the mid 2nd round. What a steal. As much as a I bi*ch at Ainge for some his trades, this guy knows talent when he sees it.
