Is it any wonder, though? http://www.kgw.com/video/featured-v...pplication-up-in-Portland-area-186198462.html
I'll get semi political here.....In every shooting that they spoke about the shooter had a mental health problem. So instead of addressing the the REAL issue (mental health), politicians want to pass another law that will harm law abiding citizens and still ignore the actual root of the problem.
There are 3 issues here: 1) guns 2) mental health 3) violence in movies/tv/video games To address one and not the other two is pure political expediency for votes. It's the Obama Administration making those children victims a second time. It's just part & parcel of liberalism.
Yes, playing grand theft auto, mortal kombat and call of duty has made me want to harm people! Blame the video games
I think violent video games and movies has desensitized people, but do you really think it's causing people to go out and kill each other?
There is a correlation, when i played Nba 2k, I made it to the nba. I also watched Star Wars and became a jedi.
As someone who has spent years around mentally ill people (I mean, aside from many people around S2), they all share some common traits- they are easily programmed by repetitive aspects of society around them and they are deeply obsessive. The nonstop and continuous diet of extreme and graphic violence in TV/movies/video games has a deep influence on shaping how their minds think. Sort of like a programming. Add to that the fact tens, if not hundreds, of millions of dollars we used to spend on mental health was rifted to pay for union pensions. I watched mental hospital and clinic one after another close as the money was needed for the public employee unions. My father wa an MD in the mental health field and we had to move around a bit as they were systimatically closed and their monies shifted elsewhere. Those programs/clinics/hospitals/doctors were pretty effective in detecting and helping those in the early stages of mental illness. Mostly gone now for political reasons. So finally, in the last stage when this shaped and programmed violent mentally ill person feels the need to act out the violence they have been taught, all they need is easy access to guns and away they go. This is why I am convinced that if the government really wanted to try and do something about these types of things, it has to be a 3-pronged approach and just one for political expediency.
Please explain how video games yielded the repeated copy cat killings of kindergarten aged children in China.
I'd like to know statistics about how these concealed gun application increases will affect our safety. Oh but [we can't](http://www.npr.org/blogs/itsallpoli...of-up-to-date-research-complicates-gun-debate) The NRA SURE seems to have GUN safety in mind! OOPS I meant to say censorship and stopping scientific study.
I think the opposite would be true. People get to act out their agressions in a manner that doesn't hurt anyone. On the other hand, when I was growing up they showed the 3 Stooges on TV to us kids (Road Runner and Coyote, too). There weren't all these violent incidents, though there were serial killers like Richard Speck and John Wayne Gacy. I wonder if, with all good intentions, trying to protect people from violent imagery makes actual violence the only alternative. It's important, obviously, that people understand the difference between hollywood or video game effects and real life.
