Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're saying here, Brian, but players on ending contracts can't be traded at the draft.

He's not technically an ending contract. He has 2 more years, but they're team options on it, or unguaranteed or whatever. So you can trade them, and then the receiving team could cut them immediately.

Thanks. I thought he was talking about Hickson, but reading it again I see it's Jeffries.

What makes him so bad? He's usually pretty accurate.

He always says what we already know. He always takes the low road and conforms to the angry badass fans who are out to purge their fair city of Zach, Sheed, etc.

Now, if you want a more specific comment, I will have to read the thread, which I'm trying to get out of here without doing...

So if we move Hickson before the deadline you guys think the Blazers would need to get a center back in return? Or might we be able to do a lopsided deal?

Re: Ben Golliver says on Talkin Ball says the Blazers maybe trying to trade JJ HIckso

we're not much under the cap right now (~2M iirc) so it'd only be JJ for about an MLE-level player. Or add in the expirings, or Jeffries. But as I said, I think Jeffries is worth more at the draft.

The true "lopsided" trades are this summer with the Imaginary Cap Space.

Blazers want a young promising SG in return for JJ such as Jeremy Lamb, Iman Shumpert, Terrence Ross says Chris Haynes.

Maybe you get someone like Iman Shumpert but the other two are too promising for their teams to give up on them just yet. Problem is his contract only comes about half as close as matching Hickson's. Something else would obviously have to be included.

OKC is in a championship window if they feel like they need to add another big to get them over that hump to win the championship they might do it.

I do like Hickson's hustle, but some of the Hickson-love is starting to wear thin. He takes many ill-advised shots. I think we should go after Pekovic as our 1st choice.

OKC is a team that would like to have Hickson, I think

The Blazers are "maybe" trying to trade several players. I dont get it. An OPINION that we are "maybe" trying to trade someone gets this much attention?

I think it's pretty much bullshit. Why would we sacrifice our frontcourt depth to gain backcourt depth?

Re: Ben Golliver says on Talkin Ball says the Blazers maybe trying to trade JJ HIckso

    How is it bullshit?

Hickson is a PF, and we have one already. If we can keep him for the same price then do it, but you don't pay back up PF's what he will command. This team needs a player that can defend the rim, set big picks and take up a lot of space in the key on both ends of the floor....(dare I say a Roy Hibbert type)

Trading Hickson at the break makes the most sense for a team and a GM that have said they want a sustainable roster that can compete for more then a year.

Re: Ben Golliver says on Talkin Ball says the Blazers maybe trying to trade JJ HIckso

Because it's not really about this season. The Blazers cannot rely on an Aldridge-Hickson starting front-court in the long term.

If they could somehow swing a deal for another big man with long-term potential then I'm sure they'd go for that, but chances are it's going to be easier to address another glaring need, which is the backcourt; particularly another player who can handle the ball and get to the basket.

Without Hickson the Blazers at least can throw somebody like Freeland or (when he gets healthy) Leonard out there. If Lillard goes down for any amount of time, we're stuck with Ronnie Price, Sasha Pavlovic and a super raw Will Barton ... I don't know what you think about that prospect, but I think that's pretty dire.

Re: Ben Golliver says on Talkin Ball says the Blazers maybe trying to trade JJ HIckso

I'm with MM and Niko. Hickson is another of those players overrated by his fan base. It's OK. It's what fans do. It's not OK for the GM or the owner, however. Trade him for whatever the best thing is we can get. It's the best strategic move.

I'm happy Hickson is getting the kinds of numbers he's getting in his contract year -- so long as it ups his trade value but doesn't entice the team to overpay him. Let someone else do that.

I thought about that last night at the game, OKC could use a guy lke Hickson, they need some more size IMO...and Lamb is 4th string behind Martin, Sefolosha & possibly Liggins....

Our GM has used the "moves the needle" manta often enough that would we have to get a player not just an unknown pick, i.e. what potentially makes us better long term is not the only consideration. Ross and Lamb, Olshey could argue
    move the needle.
