I don't see how you're anywhere near affording Pekovic when you've added a alotto pick, Cunningham, Beaubois and Wright to the team. Funny math.
I said: It is only true depending on who you replace him with. If he went down tonight for the rest of the Season and you could only start Jeffries or bring in a D-League guy then it is not true. If you swapped in someone via trade then it can be true. We lose a lot more games this year if Hickson goes down and is out the Season. And you said: I'm not sure that is the case. The Blazers are actually a better rebounding team without Hickson, and if you replace Hickson with Leonard in the 5 man unit our win % goes from 42%-69% So are you backing off what you said or are we now agreeing?
Well since no one is linking, the ESPN insider has a write up on Brandan Wright. So in otherwords, he falls in the same boat as Hickson. He may give you good numbers; but he also allows his opponent to get around the same. And 58th our of 63 centers rank on rebounding rates?!?! Yikes!!!!
We can go over the cap to resign Wright and Beaubois...right? Cap holds would be 4 million total, maybe? Ya, that would not work cause that would leave us at maximum 10 million
I personally feel this thread is getting too much attention, It was just an idea. Far better than losing him for nothing or overpaying him to back up Aldridge
I don't think that is true. http://www.82games.com/1213/1213POR2.HTM Freeland has been coming in and giving Aldridge a breather more then double the time that he could come in for Hickson. Freeland is paired with Hickson not on the court when he is sitting out.
I'm all about finding good value. However, the better value might be letting him walk and securing cap space over backups and other expirings. If it's a high upside backup? Ok. I don't think Cunningham is that. Intriguing, but...meh.
Roddy's cap hold $5.5M would be the biggest obstacle. Best case scenario would be to re-sign him to a new 3-year deal with a $2.5M base, and renounce everyone else except Wright. Existing players (including Cunningham) would total $44.4M. Beaubois, #1 pick, and Wright are another $5.6. Would give us about $10M to throw at Pek (assuming a $60M cap). Might be enough, might not.
