Because Charlotte's is a protected 12th or better?

    But...three 2nd rounders?

    Is that correct?

Looking at the talent in this draft, I'd gladly give up the pick if it's not in the top-10.

That is correct. Likely no 1st rounder, as Portland will be either the be in the 12-13 spot if they don't make the playoffs or 14-16 spot if they do... So Charlotte most likely gets our pick.

The second rounders do have some protections on them, so we might not see all 3 picks. Also Minny might be getting one of the 2nd rounders due to the Webster argument.

Was gonna say the same thing... can't spike the ball on the five yard line.

I agree though that it wouldn't be the worst thing to make the playoffs and lose out on a mid-first in this year's draft. It's a better year for mid-level free agents than mid-first round picks.

Yeah, but do you really want a mid-first rookie on your bench? You're in the awkward position of not being good enough to draft for position but not being bad enough to draft for a long-term prospect.

Any draft pick can be a long-term prospect, you're just not likely to get one the further down the board you are. Regardless, because we owe Charlotte a first round pick - top 12 protected - it's either lotto or nothing for us. There will be no mid-round pick. Also with 8 players currently putting up a sub 10 PER, anything is likely to be an improvement over the dreck we currently trot out there on a semi-nightly basis.

I'm not going to throw a pick away, but I don't think it's needed to improve the state of our bench. Young players improve most after their first offseason, so hopefully some of Meyers, Freeland, Barton and Claver improve into something solid. Bring over the Greeks and some secon rounders, for more darts at the dartboard. Then Olshey actually trying to sign the best players he could. I really think, especially at PG, they didn't want to risk having a decent backup this year, forcing Stotts to play Lillard and the rest of the young ones. Simply trying with our cap room, or with vet mins after we meet the cap threshold, I think our bench will improve.

Anyone in the top 15-16 are better than anyone on our bench

Yes, I do. Aside from Meyers and possible Barton down the road none of our bench players will ever be solid bench contributers. If we want to be a consistent playoff team we need to resign JJ and gain a minimum of 3 solid bench players (pg, sg, sf). Now, that said, we may be able to find 3 solid players via free agency, but as you know that's a hell of a lot easier said than done.

Right now, James Michael McAdoo is slated to go in that range. You don't feel he would be better than anyone on our bench?

McAdoo has been a "disappointment" based on his hype, but he's actually having a pretty productive season for UNC ... I doubt he'll ever be a star in the NBA, but with some more seasoning I'll bet he ends up a rotation quality player with starter potential.

Just lost three in a row, but Check the schedule for February and March. Damn near two months of away games. Picking a head of the 12 spot might not be so difficult to expect.
