    The 2013 MLS SuperDraft will be held on Jan. 17 in Indianapolis, the league announced on Thursday. That means the draft will be held in conjunction with the National Soccer Coaches of America convention for the ninth straight year.

    For the second straight year, the SuperDraft will consist of two rounds and last 38 picks. The Supplemental Draft will be held on Jan. 22, lasting four rounds and taking place over a conference call.

    MLS announces signing of 5 college seniors ahead of draft

    They are the hottest college seniors heading into the 2013 MLS SuperDraft. So hot that they've already penned MLS deals.

    Major League Soccer on Monday unveiled the names of five college seniors who earned league contracts before the SuperDraft, which will be held on Thursday, January 17, at the NSCAA Convention in Indianapolis.

    The fab five are Connecticut midfielder Carlos Alvarez, Boston College midfielder Kyle Bekker, Maryland's John Stertzer and Notre Dame duo Ryan Finley and Dillon Powers.

    SuperDraft Top 10: Who's the top central defender?

    SuperDraft to be streamed globally, including at MLSsoccer.com

    On Friday, Major League Soccer announced that the SuperDraft, presented by adidas, will be beamed around the globe via an innovative distribution method featuring ESPN SportsCenter and a number of online streaming partners including ESPN3, ESPNFC, MLSsoccer.com, and YouTube.

    The SuperDraft will take place on Thursday, January 17, and the the first-overall selection will be broadcast live on ESPN SportsCenter at noon ET. Fans will then be able to watch the entire draft live on ESPN3, ESPNFC, MLSsoccer.com, MLS club websites and YouTube. Additional online media outlets may be added to the list of broadcast partners in the coming days.

    No. 1 pick still a mystery as SuperDraft approaches

    Unlike a year ago, when Montreal's choice clearly came down to Andrew Wenger or Darren Mattocks, there's some mystique surrounding the first pick of Thursday's 2013 MLS SuperDraft (12 pm ET, watch live online).

    For much of the buildup to Thursday's 38 selections, Louisville's physically imposing and surprising skillful defender Andrew Farrell has been the prohibitive favorite to hear his name called first. But that's certainly no guarantee with stock rising and dropping at the MLS Combine in Fort Lauderdale, and one Canadian journalist is already predicting Toronto FC will go another way with the first of their two top-three picks. Meanwhile, another says a trade for more established talent may yet be the way to go for TFC boss Kevin Payne.

    One position where the Ontario club seems set from an experience perspective is central midfield. TFC announced the signing of former Sporting KC midfielder Julio Cesar on Tuesday morning.

    No matter what Toronto do, it seems Chivas USA have already made up their minds. That is, if you believe colorful manager José Luis Sánchez Solá – a.k.a. "El Chelís" – when he says the decision has essentially already been made. According to Chelís, UConn's Carlos Alvarez will get his wish and go at No. 2 to the Goats. What do you think of his big reveal? Misguided strategy or a crafty way to shift attention from Chivas' real targets?

    For now, the MLSsoccer.com staff agrees with Chelís: Alvarez is the No. 1-ranked attacking midfielder in the latest SuperDraft top 10.
