No threads in the Timber forum........ we HAD the #3 pick and traded it to somebody so they wouldn't draft somebody we wanted, then that fell thru? Then the only other pick we had was #34? This league confuses me so! And Boyd is now gone! ANy soccer experts know whats going on?

The draft in soccer is not much to get excited about. Sort of like baseball since it takes awhile to see the result and rarely makes a splash since it is a team game. Still looking forward to the start of both of the soccer teams playing though.

The Timbers had no draft picks going into the draft, but acquired a second round pick #34 overall at the last minute . If you don't have one of the top 3-5 or maybe top ten picks, then the MLS draft is nothing to get excited about. Most of the best US players don't go to college and there is a vast free agent market to lure free agents to the league. The MLS "Superdraft" is more Wesley Mathews than Damian Lillard.

I made a thread in the Timbers forum with today's news in it before I saw this thread 'cause I care

    Here is the post:

The Timbers traded Mike Fucito for a second round pick #34 overall.

Then draft Timbers U23 and UW CB Dylan Tucker-Gangnes

    http://www.portlandtimbers.com/news/2013/01/timbers-select-dylan-tucker-gangnes-2013-mls-superdraft

Apparently Kris Boyd has been bought out freeing up some cap space: http://www.stumptownfooty.com/2013/1/17/3887016/rumor-portland-timbers-buy-out-kris-boyds-contract

Also the Timbers will soon announce the signing of a seasoned right back: http://www.stumptownfooty.com/2013/1/17/3887706/source-portland-timbers-to-sign-seasoned-right-back

I'm not surprised about Fucito, he was always gonna be dumped for next to nothing.

That Dylan Tucker-Gangnes looks like a nice CB prospect. There is a good youtube highlight vid where he shows a knack for heading the ball and some good athletisism. He might have a chance to stick around a while.

Getting Boyd off of the roster frees up a good chunk of cap space which is nice. I was hoping the Timbers would get something for him but I didn't expect them to.

A seasoned right back sounds rad. Cherundolo is pretty well seasoned He'd be great for a season or two.

Oh and the Timbers are apparently in the running to sign EPL player Nigel Reo-Coker recently of Bolton Wanderers. Apparently his wife is American and if he moves to the US for a while he could get a national team call up. Klinsman is encouraging him to come to MLS mainly so he can gain eligibility to play for the Nats. He just needs to spend some time in the US first to become eligible.
Anyway here is the article, sorry if I ruined it for you
