Portland should not do the Dikembe/Martin for Rasheed/Patterson trade for several reasons:

    1. Deke. He is overpaid, and old. Creaky. Ancient. Acquiring him is a negative as a result. He couldn't get PT ahead of Jason Collins or Aaron Williams for the most part. Is he going to get PT ahead of Randolph and Davis? Not likely.....

    2. Losing Rasheed is taking a step back. Rasheed is an underrated, albeit troubled, player. But he is better than KMart. Doing this trade downgrades them in talent. If Portland has any chance of making a run deep into the playoffs, they will need Rasheed to match up with the likes of Dirk, Chris, Tim, and co. Martin would get obliverated by them. Rasheed puts up a good fight(defensively.....not what you are thinking). He also has good size, and a great outside shot. He can also create for himself. KMart is none of that. He is a good defender and can finish. But Portland lacks a PG like Kidd, whom Martin thrives under. Martin would be your average player w/o Kidd.

    3. Money. Rasheed's contract comes off the books next year. Portland can let him walk, and save tens of million of dollars in doing so(by saving some money from the L.T.) Adding Deke, and re-signing Martin to a large contract only pushes them farther into the luxury area.

    4. Not enough talent coming back. Rasheed is better than Martin. Patterson is better than Mutombo. No reason for Portland to do this if they want to make the playoffs.

    --------------

If Portland really wants to deal with NJ, I suggest a Derek Anderson and Rasheed Wallace for a Kenyon Martin, Dikembe Mutombo, Zoran Planinic and a 1st rounder.

Why for NJ? Adding a PF like Rasheed could get them over the hump. Rasheed is superior to Martin in almost every category. Out East, he is a top 2 PF(O'Neal would have slight edge). He would eat the Eastern Conference alive, and NJ would have its secondary star it needs alongside Kidd. Anderson could start or come off the bench; either way, he adds the much needed outside shooting NJ could use. This also saves NJ a few million this season(and they will be below the luxury tax threshold as a result). They also lose Dikembe's large contract.

    Why for Portland?
They have a glut of wing men. This helps unload it. Woods, Patterson, and Wells are still there, as well as rookie Outlaw. They get a younger PF with excitement. Rasheed is a headcase(in trouble with the law), while Martin is a lesser of an evil. They also get another 1st to which they can continue to stockpile young talent. But they add a PG, which they need. As of now, McInnis and Stoudamire are their options. Planinic gives them size at the PG(6'8"), and figures to be a good PG in the future. Planinic/Woods/Outlaw/Randolph look to be a great future for Portland.

    I agree

Why would you trade for Deke at all. He is more overpaid then wallace is.

Although they shouldn't trade him for martin..they NEED to get rid of him...they need a new change...by getting rid of the cancers/headaches or whatever you call him and the blazers these days...

How about a Rasheed Wallace for S. Abdur-Rahim.

It is good for both teams

The hawks are trying to clear cap and the blazers get a just as good Power Foward in S. Abdur-Rahim who is more of a post player and played better in the western conference.

    That problem is two-fold.

Abdur Rahim would start at SF, bec. the Blazers want to start Randolph at PF.

Defensively, thats a nightmare, as neither are solid defenders. Teams will score on them quite easily. Thats why Rasheed is so important to the Blazers still, and thats why adding KMart might be a better option for them......as Martin is a good defender, and pairing him up with Randolph is a better defensive tandem than pairing Randolph up with Abdur Rahim.

but Martin is going to want close to 90 million dollars for being essentially a go to defender. he wont be able to score or rebound in the west and hell bring just as many headaches and chemitry problems as theyll get rid of with rasheed

Man, unless you have a point, please stop bringing back ancient threads.

It's one thing to bring back a nine year old thread that you posted in, but you only joined the board three years ago. These threads have no relevance to you, nor anyone else on the forum these days.

It's funny once in a blue moon, but not when it's to get attention or "prove" you know the game

In those cases it's just annoying

no, I think what he was saying (and I'd agree with) is that while it's annoying, a "told-ya-so" bump actually has a purpose. This doesn't, and should be stopped as spamming.
