IIRC, his colon was entirely removed. Either that, or he has a semi-colon. Can't recall.

He had it completely removed, if I remember the story right he could have died had he not gone to the hospital.

No, I know the procedure. My uncle and a friend have both undergone the procedure (and it's how I'm familiar with the bag).

It's actually pretty amazing to think you can medicine has advanced this far to allow for this sort of thing.

1 month done and its getting much easier. I now want a smoke when I drink and right before bedtime. The rest of the time I'm pretty much good. And even when I do want a smoke, it's much easier ignoring the craving.

You tried e cigs? I only smoke when I drink. Them e cigs get me going, but I've never been a big smoker.

Bad idea, IMO, if you can kick the habit just cuz they seem like a slippier slope for real smokers. But for peeps like me, it's all I need.

I have been a big smoker for years, so best for me is just to stay totally quit. If I never let another butt touch my lips, then I will never smoke a second one.

I would suggest staying away from Mrs. HCP then.

Yeah that's why I said an e cig at this point may not work.

But for someone like me, I'm shocked it works. I dig it.

Still going strong, haven't had a puff in four months, but I still want one a couple times a day. The hardest has Ben drinking ang going to concerts, but it's not that bad. I can't wait till I get to the point where smelling smoke nauseates me, right now a smoker walks by on a sidewalk and I love it.

Congratulations man. I posted in this thread when you first started it, saying I'm weening myself, and I still am, but I still smoke, so that really means nothing. The bigger thing is that I posted that my mother had been smoking a pack a day for 40+ years, but as of recently, with a recent health scare, she's going on about six weeks without smoking now. Knowing how hard it's been on her, I've got respect for ya.

She's actually taking Chantix, Denny, and she said she really doesn't have any urges to smoke again (aside from some dreams she has where she sneaks smokes in her dreams haha), but she's supposed to get off of the Chantix soon, and she's worried there might be Chantix crash that would lead to her smoking again. Ever have that concern yourself when you were weening off the Chantix?

Anyway, congrats again to you GOD, hope you're posting here later on this year wondering why you ever smoked in the first place (because although weening, I'm pretty far off from quitting, and still looking forward to the day that happens).

Almost 8 months for me now.

There was no Chantix crash for me. I realized I didn't need it anymore after just 3 weeks. I got the urges to smoke, but I found if I just focused on something else that the urges went away pretty quickly. The Chantix didn't make a difference as far as focusing on something else.

What I'm saying is I quit the Chantix after 3 weeks. The really big thing for me trying to quit was the withdrawal symptoms. Taking Chantix, I didn't have a single one. I'm talking about an urge to smoke so strong I'd dig through pockets of sweaters in the closet looking for a pack I forgot about or ultimately run out to the store to satisfy the craving. Again, nothing even close to that with the Chantix

I quit the Chantix cold turkey, FWIW. I don't know if they have some reduced dosage over the last few days to ween people off or not.

I would add that the Chantix was a very mild psychedelic for me. Like a constant low grade buzz. It could have been my body reacting to the lack of nicotine, too.

I was at a friend's house and the two of them there smoke. I smell smoke on them like I never did before. I love the smell of the smoke from a distance, still. That night, I dreamt I had smoked half a pack over 2 days and was going to quit again. LOL.

Thanks. I also was cutting down for a very long time ahead of quitting. But, I choose a date that would be my last cig. If you do want to quit, choose a day, even if its 6 months from now, it will creep closer and closer and eventually it will arrive. The decision would have already been made a long time earlier. You can even plan it so you take 3 days off work and tell friends/relatives to take a hike for a few days. Spend the time being pissed and uncomfortable alone and away from the world. After 3 days, you will still have cravings, but believe it or not, thats enough time to turn the corner and start feeling good about the cravings. If you want to quit. But I'll tell you, its great. To never have to sniff a jacket or pants to see if they smell like smoke, to not have to make that late night run to the store because you have to have one more cig. Anyway, congrats to mom.

I'm so deep into my Cope Wintergreen addiction I don't know how I'm ever going to stop. Its not too bad though, a can lasts me over a week.

That's not that bad. And people might act like its gross, but it's not as bad as inhaling smoke, the damage to the lungs are outrageous. But you could still get cancer, just more likely to be survivable. But at least 28 chemicals in smokeless tobacco (which includes cope) have Ben found to cause cancer.

I would suggest that I you are at all interested in quitting, try the gum, it might be the perfect way to keep getting that wonderful nicotine without risking your jaw being removed.

Fascinating reading all your stories. Congratulations GOD and others who have quit or are quitting. I have never smoked. I'm a recovering problem gambler. GA got me off it. I've now gone 959 days without placing a bet. I have dreams where I think about gambling or nearly do gamble and I'm so glad when I wake up and it's only a dream. I don't want to start back at 1 day. I just moved back to NYC but when I was in LA, lately, I had been wanting to play the midnight poker tournaments (lots of casinos im LA) so bad but I didn't. I just tell myself "You already did gamble. A lot. No need to gamble anymore. You had your chance." I'm thinking of going to summer league for the first time since I quit. I think I can be in Vegas and not gamble. Will be weird though. Last time I went to summer league, I gambled a lot. Saw a lot of NBA players in the casinos too. Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting to 1,000 days.
