Not really. Not if you saw the types of things he donates his money to. Most of which, he gets no benefit of. Unless you consider simply bettering the world and the environment ROI. Not to say it's not.... but it's saying we all get a lot of benefit from the funds he gives away. So you and I get a better ROI on his investments than he does.
I'd rather make $50 million and pay 36%, and invest the non-taxed income in private industry and charity. The government is the most inefficient organization one can find at every level (local/state/federal), yet people seem to feel that giving it more money is a good idea.
Since when did making a decision to improve your finances become "whining". The only whiners are the poor folks whining about him having the freedom to move from CA and its punitive tax codes.
One thing I have noticed about many of these types, especially the more "philanthropic" ones is that much of their sob stories of coming up from the streets to build a gigantic empire are complete fabrications. A lot of the sob stories and charity does nothing more than to feed a massive ego, even if on the surface they seem sincere. To get to the top, you have to kind of be a psychopath. Sad, but true.
I don't think anyone was whining about him leaving. Just think it's funny he's bitching about his tax problems to the public.
I'd assume this is mostly true. Most of the people wealthy people I know came from already wealthy families and they had more opportunities (and I don't know how the families came to be wealthy). The only one that I know that truly jumped classes was just a dude who was just genuinely genius, and a few pieces of his luck fell into place. And then his family was able to kick back and collect the returns/residuals/royalties.
Really? In that case, shouldn't we all pay 100% and just let the government have control over everything? The "1%" strawman argument that our simpleton President uses to divide American citizens is not an economic argument, it's an emotional argument. And emotional people who aren't really informed on economics tend to then demonize the rich. Tax the rich at 75% and it changes nothing substantive in this country, other than a lot more people would be out of work.
Mickelson lives in CA. The people of CA voted to dramatically raise taxes on the rich. Part of living in a democracy is to follow the law, even if you disagree with it. Part of living in a free country is you can leave that state if you disagree strongly enough about the laws in your state.
Given that choose, I would rather be Phil and just bitch how I wish I didn't have to pay so much in taxes.
He regrets that people are so divided in this country that he's been bombarded with angry emails and Tweets for daring to say something about a tax code that actually applies to him. Lots of people on this board will never be impacted by that tax rate, yet it doesn't keep them from supporting it and lashing out at those who it does actually impact.
The only thing he regrets is putting his endorsements at risk. Phil, just shut up and collect the weekly paychecks . . . it really isn't that hard to figure out. If you want to move, then move. Nobody is going to stop you or hold that against you. It's complaining about money that has middle America bent.
I'm certainly not going to be bitching to the general public about it. He's part of the entertainment industry. Without our level of support and us placing significant value in what he does, he wouldn't be making shit. Not saying he needs to bow down to us or that he owes us anything, but he should certainly have enough common sense to STFU about it.
Yeah a wise choice. That would be one of the worst jobs in the world. Could you imagine worrying about someone knocking you off for your stake? Talk about stress man!!
I disagree. He's an uber-talented and competitive person. One of the very best in the world at what he does. I'll take his opinion over some internet schlubs, or even a President who has never earned a private sector dollar in his life, yet rails against "the rich" only to create an atmosphere of conflict and class warfare.
Well Kobe raped a girl and still making tons of money on endorsements. We just talked about ray Lewis and how he's gonna still make money after the murder case. I think complaining the government is raping him on taxes is hardly any worse.
