I was just looking at Minny's salary and it doesn't look like they would be in trouble if they match a 13 mil offer for Pek. Currently without Pek; they will be under the cap by 11 million. But if they renounce Cunningham and Stiemsma; they will be 16 million under cap. They would basically match and still be under cap by 3 million. I think the only way to pry Pek off their hands is offering around 14-15 million. I just don't think he's worth that amount. That's more than Aldridge!
I don't think we have that amount to offer. I know the true numbers won't be known until summer but last I heard is we will be lucky to have 13.5 MIL. Unless the cap goes up A LOT then I don't think we can come close to that huge offer. What is MAX capped at now though? I think it lowered. Regardless I think MIN matches. Going to be moving on to Plan B (if we have one).
Yeah Pek would be a great pick up for us but I just don't see it happening. For one Khan has such a hard on for the Blazer organization. He would match, even if it locks his team because he wouldn't want the Blazers to get the better of him. He is one of the weirdest GMs I've seen in ages.
According to storyteller, the cap should be at 60 mm and would give Portland around 16 mm in cap space....assuming we don't have a lottery pick cap hold
Storyteller is damn good at this so I will trust him. Olshey said 13-14 but he isn't the true numbers guy (I assume he talked to the POR cap guy however).
I think it has more to do with the number according to what it is now (56.5 mil). He can't say We have 16 million; when the actual cap hasn't been released.
So does anyone recall exact numbers of what we offered Hibbert? I would assume that would be Max we could offer Pek as well.
agreed. I think AL Jefferson would potentially come cheaper, and offers the exact same game, but better rebounding. I want someone who can play defense alongside Aldridge, personally. Pek can not.
I am down with Al Jeff. I would also take him over Pek. Seems most of the rest of the board doesn't like him all that much though. Don't understand why. Utah is deep so him putting up the numbers he does is impressive (even if they are down slightly from years' past - goes back to the deep thing again).
I don't really care for him all that much, either. Was just throwing him out there, though, as a similar type of player. If most would not want Jefferson, then there's really not a great reason to go all in on Pek.
You say Pek can not play defense, but metion you would prefer Al Jefferson. I am confused. Neither one protect the rim. I dunno. I am not big on making a run at Jefferson. BUT, if you are right that he can be obtained at a cheaper price than Pek, we should give a look at Big Al. What do you think he can be had for? He will be 28, the age when most agents desperately want to cash in on the final (or only) monster contract of a career. I doubt your idea of "cheap" is in fact cheap. But sure, I would rather much rather have Al at $10mil per than Pek at $14 mil.
Sorry, I had it in my head, but didn't type it out well. No, Jefferson not a good defender either. Should have been more clear. Didn't mean it as an endorsement for Jefferson.
