Rudy Gay appears to be on his way to Toronto.

Several outlets are reporting that the Raptors, Memphis Grizzlies and Detroit Pistons have an agreement in principle that would send Gay to Toronto along with centre Hamed Haddadi.

In exchange, the Raptors will send Jose Calderon and Ed Davis to Memphis. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! sports, the Grizzlies will then send Calderon to the Pistons for Tayshaun Prince and Austin Daye to complete the trade.

Gay, the Grizzlies leading scorer this season, is averaging 17.2 points per game to go along with 5.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists. He is however, shooting a career-worst 40.8 percent from the field.

Besides his scoring, Gay also brings a large contract with him to Toronto. He signed a five-year $82 million deal in the summer of 2010. The 6-foot-8 small forward is due $16.5 million this season with $37 million more over the next two years.

Calderon has averaged 11.1 points and 7.4 assists for the Raptors this season while Davis has averaged 9.7 points and 6.7 rebounds.

Calderon has played his entire NBA career in Toronto, having joined the team in the 2005-06 season. In 525 career games, he has averaged 10.0 points and 7.2 assists per game.

He is in the final year of his current contract worth $10.5 million for this season.

Davis was the Raptors 13th overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft.

The Grizzlies cleared a lot of cash and luxury tax obligations off their slate last week by completing a three-for-one deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

That deal - which sent Marreese Speights, Wayne Ellington, Josh Selby and a future first-round draft pick to Cleveland in exchange for forward Jon Leuer – cleared about $6 million in salary off Memphis' books and got them under this season's luxury tax bar.

We could be looking to buy-out Hamed Haddadi.

The Raps will include a second round pick in this trade. The second round of the draft is kind of useless for us usually.

Hamed Haddadi will be bought-out and waived, per the latest.

i thought the second rounder was from Detroit not us?

I didn't want to lose Ed Davis, but this is the first time the Raptors are actually selling high on a player instead of waiting till his value drops (cough Bargnani) and buying low. Gay's value has dropped this season. He's putting up similar stats to Demar but he plays on a much better team than the Raptors.

+ Kyle Lowry gets to run the team
+ Pressure is off DeRozan who isn't a great first option
    + Improves our defence
+ If we were afraid to give up on Bargnani because of the drop in scoring now there is compensation

    - Ed Davis was a good young player and a better fit for the team than Bargnani
    - Paying almost $50m for DeRozan, Gay, Fields, and Bargnani
    - Forget about a top-3 draft pick
    - Really just renting Gay for two years, then what

trading for lowery was kinda like an all in type deal, so i guess i get whats going on, but it looks like BC is trying to salvage his job, maybe to the detriment of the future, because the present still looks like it sucks

guess we will see though, i hadnt payed too much attention, was calderon eating up lowrys minutes?

After failing to get Nash, Colangelo has been trying to explain that everything is going to plan. Apparently giving up first round draft picks and young forwards is part of the plan.

Calderon was getting more minutes than Lowry but it was justified by his play. Fans wanted to see more of Lowry regardless.

No way we try to tank. Definitely aiming for the playoffs or at-least close to it (give up a late pick).

I think Bargs can still go but obviously with him being injured it's a difficult thing to do. Maybe in the off-season, let him show his stuff whenever he comes back then trade him.

Kinda feel bad for Calderon, he goes from an awful team in Toronto to an awful team not that far from Toronto.

Could one of ya'll breakdown what the Grizz can expect out of Davis, from a Raptors fan's perspective?

I've been getting asked by my friends all night about Ed Davis, but honestly, all I know about his development in Toronto is that it's been slow and disappointing. I watched a lot of him in college, and he torched my Spartans a good three times in two years, but even when you're a diehard NBA fan, you don't really catch a lot of Toronto games.

As far as Rudy Gay goes, he might fit in well with the Raptors. He's an empty scorer that is always looking for his shot first, but its sounds like Toronto could use a player like that. He also played with Lowry for two and a half seasons, so at least there's some familiarity there.

The biggest problem that most Memphis fans had with Gay was how he'd consistently bring our offense to a halt every time the ball was in his hands. Our two best offensive players were both post players, yet as soon as Gay would get the ball, there wouldn't be any further ball movement... Gay would jack up a shot, usually one that was ill-advised.

I say good riddance to him as a Grizzlies fan. I think he's addition by subtraction for us, but if you make him the focal point of your offense, he might be less frustrating to watch.

At this point in his career he is a limited but promising player. Decent rebounder and soft touch around the basket. Efficient offensive player. Moves well. Short and mid-range game still in development. Doesn't have a lot of moves away from the basket. Physically weak. Lacks defensive awareness. Free throw shooting could stand to improve. Good attitude. Coming up on a new contract--what is he worth?

Seems like a decent addition for Memphis IMO. Yeah Gay has been an inefficient scorer, but he can go on some big time tears and from what I've seen of him hes a pretty good scorer down the stretch and in clutch situations. Obviously you're probably not in great shape if you're building around him, but you've got some more pieces to move to balance the roster and if you make another trade to get a talented starter like the Josh Smith trade proposed above you could have a pretty nice core that would do well in the East.
