If anything, the Blazers should be paying HCP more for his work here, not punishing him. No bullshit. From a marketing perspective, he's exactly the kind of authentic, inside personality perspective that corporate types waste a lot of time with "social media consultants" trying to develop. As a business owner myself, I only wish I had a guy like him adding perspective to my product in his free time, on weekends and evenings and holidays. If somebody from Blazers middle management is reading this, realize the asset you've got here and take advantage of it. Give him some training with the PR department and some basic guidelines and let him go.
I don't think he would deny that. I mean he calls himself "the hcp". He deserves this attention. I like that we have someone working for the blazers in here.
I think sometimes people who run businesses/departments, are outdated in their ideology. Although I can see where certain aspects of business need to be run tightly, I think the Blazers should've taken some time to view how fans are on a forum. If you ever go to their "I am a trail blazer fan" website (which I'm guessing most of you/us don't), you'd see that it's a little odd. I don't like going there, I don't like traversing it, and I don't like the whole shill aspect of it. Not saying it needs to be a clusterfuck that is Olive, or that we're the perfect example here, but it just seemed to be a place where homers go to circle jerk about the Blazers. It's like they think only teenagers are on the message boards, or people who can't or won't talk about the team on a non emotional level (there is a better word for that, but I can't think of it). I'd love to see an ACTUAL Blazer employee post here, free of restraints and restrictions. If they were known to post here, it would be super easy to see if they were giving out information (trade rumors, internal shit). I bet some employees do post here (and probably laugh at how much we think we know), but to be honest, it'd be better if they could post more freely. Like if MB posted here, it'd be nice to see him interact with us or whatever. Not saying he should be defending himself, or arguing his points....I think after a while fans would just see him as a poster and not try to troll him (or anyone who works for the team in some capacity). Maybe some of us couldn't handle that, but the vast majority of us would.
As awesome as it sounds, there would have to be major changes in this forum. Posting as an anon is fine, but the moment you have someone from brass or even via Comcast, you can't have a board filled with profanity and shit. They can't be associated with a board that is more of a open platform like it is here. I don't know if I would like that.
I agree. I've been there. I tried to use it for information a few times. Hated it. Haven't gone back in a long time. I hate all the Blazers web sites. Their main site is like entering a dungeon. I'd like to be able to easily do research about the Blazers on their site, historical and current. If the information is there, it is just too hard for me to dig out. I also feel like I'm just being treated like a cash cow. Their entire web setup and philosophy seems to be to separate me from my money. I guess that's the way it is.
Nah hcp is way worse then kingspeed. I actually am entertained by speed. Hcp is more of a person wanting to be recognized. Speed is a legit actor. Hcp is a camera guy. Do the math.
What math? Both are attention whores, certainly. I doubt either would disagree. The difference is one is a celebrity who attends games and occasionally has the inclination to follow the team around, and the other actually edits the video we watch on Blazer broadcasts. I like them both, and I roll my eyes as much as the next guy at times, but I appreciate them each for their unique perspective.
That HCP is an attention whore is not news. I enjoy his schtick and think he's a pretty good guy. I don't think the guy who works in a truck is more of an attention whore than the guy who acts on stage and on television and makes a public proclamation every time he goes to a basketball game. I met Eric a few years ago at a Blazers game (I'm sure he doesn't realize it) and I think he's a pretty good guy too. The best thing about both of them is, I think they are enjoying themselves, unlike some posters here. That's a good thing. This is like a big extended family, with all it's quirks, warts, and characters. As they say, you can't pick your relatives.
I for one am glad he told us, and I'm sorry that a joke turned into something that's keeping him from posting. He's a cool guy and (like it or not) one of our better posters.
