It would be cool, although I don't know how the current owners of the RG would feel about it. The Winterhawks could move to Eugene or Salem too.
I'm all for it. I've always said I would support the NHL if they came here. I just never saw a reason to pick a random team.
Me too, this would be a lot better than soccer. I'm surprised Big game Damian hasn't chimed in about this, he loves hockey.
I'd love if Portland had an NHL team. As Nate mentioned it's hard to care about some random team. Portland would support an NHL team just as we support the Blazers and Timbers.
Btw, I don't think it's a given that IF Bill Gallacher bought the Coyotes, he'd move them to Portland.
A lot of people seem to think PA wouldn't want another pro team coming here, so that is a possibility. Although i don't remember the Blazers having a problem with the Timbers going pro.
Btw, what would a Portland hockey team be called anyway? I don't think the Coyotes makes a lot of sense here.
I think thats because they don't share the same building. It would have to be a sweetheart deal for a 2nd owner to come in and rent the RG, for both the Blazers to make money and the (lets say) Buckaroos to make money and worth their while. I think it's possible, why wouldn't Paul Allen want anther 41 nights guaranteed occupancy for the RG? Even if it's a 50/50 split (no idea if it would be, just guessing) 50% of something is better than 100% of nothing. And we all know, nothing from nothing leaves nothing.
hehe, this made me chuckle: So, what's in Portland? Do lumberjacks care about hockey? Because yeah, the first place I think of ice hockey (or ice period) is the Arizona Desert.
it's minor league, it should be cheaper. I've heard as well about Paul being opposed to hockey. Like others have said, I would think that an additional 40 nights of occupancy a night would be a big draw. I think I heard before it was due to splitting ad revenue within the arena, but I dunno.
