    I've read that the commandment actually specifies a difference between "murder" and rightful killing, such as in a war.

    Can't back that up with much knowledge, but I'm sure a google search could help you out.

    I still stand by my point, the whole thing about him being a "good man" and that "god would welcome him" seems odd to say, considering he's the reason why 200+ people are dead.

    The commandment doesn't read "thou shall not take a life under any circumstances."

    Murder has a definition. It doesn't cover every possible way a person might take another's life.
