Is it any different than people watching war footage of ww2 or even applauding deaths of hundreds of thousands for freedom?
I don't. What makes this more horrifying is its focused on one person. The end result is the same. Someone died on a belief. People that are patriotic to "mother Russia" had no problem exhaulting a solder for killing 20 soldiers. Or an American getting a bronze star for killing 30 afghanis.
I think he is going more for the angle that he can't believe they would take pictures and watch instead of trying to stop this from happening.

Come on man, you have to remember the VN war at five, all the picsof Japs cutting off heads in WW2, Germans exicuting Jews and Russians in any variety of ways possiable, go further back to public hangings, there have been pics of every and all kinds of public exicution..jeeesh there are stone carvings from the aztecs tothe greeks of public exicutions..I think you would like to believe we ae a more evolved race..sad to say, it is not true.
