One big surprise from the study is Oregon, which is the second most popular state with 61% inbound migration. Although it’s not the typical temperate climate of a retirement spot, Stoll believes hipster city Portland may be attracting both older individuals and young people with its mix of economic growth, cutting edge urban planning

There's a huge demand for office space and a lot of companies need much bigger space than what's available in the downtown core.

I think we'll be seeing more office towers pop up soon -- PAW, One Waterfront Place, Indoor market tower, etc.

The metro pop, without Salem, hit the 2.3m mark last month.

Goddamn Californians, at least you guys don't get all of the white trash up there. They seem to make it over the border and stop here.

Klamabama, where are you from? Ashland is the only Southern Oregon place the Northerners don't seem to laugh at.

Well we lived on a dirt road and our Mexican gangbanger neighbors stole our punching bag out of our garage. Our other neighbors were literally toothless and didn't own furniture. Oh and there was also the neighbor who sat on his porch, polished his gun, and ranted at himself about the little kids touching his truck with their dirty hands.

That sounds about right. I grew up in my neighborhood and it wasn't anything special, but it was at least full of good people. People were working class mill workers, but decent. After I moved away, everytime I visit, it is just worse and worse. My parent's house is now in a full on Meth War Zone. Broken cars, yards full of 6 ft tall weeds, stabbings, shootings, and regular meth busts are normal there now. Kind of insane to watch the transition. And that is in a town of 4,000 people. Crazy.

That sounds right too. Except this was in the city limits of Medford in 1987-1991. Meth hit the NW hard in the 80s and yeah, even as a 2 to 6 year old, I could tell the city was gross.

Ha ha, this all sounds so familiar... Southern Oregon needs to just be incorporated into California.

It's really surreal seeing the names of people you've known since elementary school in the paper getting picked up for meth again and again.

That's something else about a lot of the towns down here, even if you take the meth out of the equation, they just look dirty and old.

Sounds like white trash to me. I have a friend that grew up in Tenmile and went to high school with Palamalu. He said that area is a bunch of inbreds.

Yeah, my dad getting a promotion and moving the family to Beaverton back in '92 is probably the best thing that ever happened to me.
