I'm sure they would laugh when I told them Hickson has a better drtg than Aldridge. Drtg is in no way an individual statistic and people who use it should stop.
They're both pretty bad. The only good thing that I like that Aldridge does defensively is how he can go up top and disrupt guards. Other than that he's kind of a boner defensively.
You asked me for the stats. The stats show that Monroe is a significantly better defender than Aldridge.
1 point give or take in a DRtg isn' a huge deal. A 5 point difference and there's a little something to it. Both Aldridge and Hickson are bad defenders so its not really outrageous.
The stat is stupid anyways because it's not really an individual statistic. All things considered, we know from people that watch games that: Aldridge is a much better defender than Hickson And that multiple Detroit Pistons blogs have called out Monroe for his bad defense. Basically the lesson of the day is....... DRtg is a kindergarten statistic.
Let's actually look at production though, not just PER. Vs PFs Aldridge gives up 20.7points 10.3rebounds and 3.2 assists per 48 in that link Vs Cs Monroe gives up 19.6pts 13.1rebs and 1.8asts per 48 20.7/10.3/3.2 19.6/13.1/1.8 So scoring wise Monroe gives up less, but his opponents PER is pumped up by the rebounding numbers. How about net production per 48 for their respective positions too? Aldridge gives you 5.7pts/0.6rebs/0.1asts more than his opponent at PF Monroe gives you 3.9pts/1.0rebs/2.7asts more than his opponent at C I've talked about this sort of trade with Detroit more than once, and how I'm in favor. Fact is Aldridge and Monroe are comparable talents, they have different games for sure, but the level of talent is close. The fact that banking on Aldridge's reputation and All Star appearances could also net us a solid roleplaying prospect in Singler and possibly Will Bynum or a pick and the talent swap alone I like. Then the kicker is the fact that to make the money work Detroit would need to send us Maggette's expiring, which along with Monroe being on a rookie deal could easily mean an extra 10 million in cap room. With free agents like J.Smith, Millsap, even guys like Big Al or David West could play at the 4 next to Monroe, and we could have the room to not only sign one of them, but also have enough room to fill out our bench as well? Yup, I think it makes us better long term.
Zagger is puling the same shit he did with Love. Love is a horrid defender too and you can see it from just watching him but since the "date" shows he has a better defensive rating then LA he is a better defender then LA. LA isn't an amazing defender, he is an above average defender at the PF position which just kinda shows how bad most PFs are defensively but he is hands and shoulders above Monroe who defends about as good as Hickson.
I have never claimed that Love was a good defender. I'd like you to show me where I've ever said he was a good defender. I've just said that were in an era of basketball where pretty much all PF's are shitty defenders so Love not being a good defender isn't a big deal.
You give nothing to back up your assertion that Aldridge is a better than Monroe except that you've caught a couple Detroit games.
There's no way that could have anything to do with the fact that power forwards take more longer and difficult shots than centers do.
