There's a lot of incredible solos out there, but the last solo on Fade to Black by Metallica and the solo in Stairway to Heaven are probably my two all time favorites. I've heard them both countless times and they both still give me goosebumps every time. Fade to Black solo: Stairway to Heaven (as if someone has actually not heard it before)

One of the few female hard rockers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_nOCta8HE0 Maybe crandc can explain why there are so few?
They are rare. We're all naming numerous guys who play lead (electric) guitar. I can name maybe 5 women guitarists (Lita Ford?).
Steve Howe in a 10+ minute guitar solo, otherwise known as "America." The song is a much jazzier remake of the Simon & Garfunkel classic by the same name. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdsUPaIueUw Sounds like "Got the acid as we boarded the greyhound in Pittsburgh" to me. And the 5 minute Simon and Garfunkel version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCbOEZ8c8dM
