We already offered Hedo and he didn't accept (Thank God)! But there were others we had our eye on when we had max available; but had to go for others after we lost the 9 mil from Mile's salary.

FA's I see as reasonable targets:

PG: Jack, Harris, Robinson, Bynum, Watson.

    SG: Foye, Redick, Barbosa, Webster

    SF: Brewer, Budinger, Childress,

    PF: Blatche, Brandan Wright

Centers: Kaman, Dalembert, Pachulia, Jerm Oneal, Turiaf, Aldrich.

Clearly, SF and PF are our lowest priorities, so I only listed a couple for each of those.

Going through this (thanks Mags!) actually makes me a lot more optimistic for next season, because it seems like we should be able to pick up a few ~$4m vets to round out and deepen our team, because there are a lot of guys listed in the OP that will pick up the big money before we get around to spending ours (hopefully) more reasonably.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. I actually wanted to just post the SGs because of all this talk with Matthews being a 6th man or starter. I wanted to see the guards available. Then I decided "WTF" why not look at the entire free-agent pool. After looking at it; there are a bunch of players probably getting big deals that we won't be too interested in. That means teams with cap space will probably nab the bigs first. I think the guards will be last on the free-agent list; with the exception of a couple players.

Your targets all would help this ball club and there is at least 4-5 guaranteed if we had two 4-5 mil contracts to offer.

I forgot all about Devin Harris, how did he implode so quickly?

I remember when we didn't want to trade Outlaw for him.

I doubt Hedo would be in our sights if we had max available.

    http://www.nba.com/freeagents/2009/

Look at the free agent pool then, we could have tossed out max to many way better players than Turk. We settled because the market for the other free agents were higher.

Well at the time, we were really thin at SF. Ariza, Marqis Daniels, Finley, Drew Gooden, AL HArrington, Grant Hill, Kyle Korver, Shawn Marion, Millsap (Because we could have offered max and probably utah wouldn't match), Lamar Odom, Leon Powe, Joe Smith

But none of those guys got paid more than Hedo, we already COULD have gone after them if we wanted to.

But we would have more cap space and pick a couple players. Maybe even get a pg; which had some good quality that year. Any way you see it; miles fucked out flexibility. Maybe it's a good thing though because we wouldn't have Lillard now! ;)

Still doesn't change my theory that free agent will actually come if we make a decent offer.

bump... For those that assume the free agent class is weak, look again. Then think about how many teams have the cap space to go after these free-agents. Portland is in good position to grab some serious talent this summer.

Looked again and it still looks weak - especially once you weed out the players we don't have a shot at. My short list players who would be okay:

    PG: Calderon, Udrih

SG: Martin, Foye, Redick, Brewer, Barbosa

    SF: Brewer, Budinger, Matt Barnes

    PF: Paul Milsap, JJ Hickson

    Centers: Kaman, Dalembert, Pachulia

Only Calderon, Udrih, and Bass interest me - and all of them could be starters elsewhere in the league. Dalembert would be okay, but certainly won't make us a contender.
    Weak FA class.

LMAO at being weak. There are at least 20 players on that list that would make us significantly better.

Well sure - ANYBODY on that list would make us better. But just becoming "better" isn't the point. Wasting money on mediocre players isn't a recipe for continued improvement. And even most of the players I listed are kinda mediocre.

Portland could sign Jerm Oneal and Dalembert both for cheap. Maybe a total of 4-5 million per. We use 5-6 million to grab Reddick or Jack. We use another 3-4 million for Stackhouse or Budinger.

We could even use Matthews and Leonard to grab starter center talent as well.

I just don't understand why all this gloom and Aldridge wanting out bullshit. After this summer, if Oshley is a good GM, we could become a playoff team, even contender next season.
