If the NBA was like baseball and it diden't have a salary cap how would it be? Would the knicks sign every big name player? Would teams like the bucks and other small market teams would be out of luck?
If that would happen, the NBA wouldn't excist anymore. It's like dutch football (soccer) - the teams with the most money always stay on top. Every year it's the same thing.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>aren't the knicks signing every big name player now ??? llol</div>No, they don't sign big-name players to small contracts, they sign sign no-names that aren't any good to huge contracts.
If the NBA had no salary cap, teams would be way overstacked with high-paid players and players would be more money-hungry than they are now. They wouldn't think about their team and who else their team needs to sign in order for them to win.

The league would be an absolute disaster if there were no salary cap.Want a preview? Just look at the Knicks' payroll right now... and this is when there is a cap! Payrolls for major market teams would be 5x the Knicks' current payroll, and the league in general would not be competitive at all. You'd have a few teams with All Stars at four or five positions, and then every other team would have average players.

I think this topic should be locked. It was a stupid question resulting in a bunch of ways of saying the same answer. LA, NY.

The one thing that ticks me off is people ripping on topics people make. Maybe if you think it's stupid you shouldn't reply.
No cap would really make it unfair, because then the team wouldnt depend on strategy, just the payroll of big organizationsthe rich get richer, and the poor get poorer.. and an everlasting Lakers/Knicks rivalry would begin

I dont think the salary cap matters as much as people think. Most teams are still over it anyways...

It wouldn't be good for the NBA. As some have said before. The teams bringing the money would continue to do that. And, teams with less cash wouldn't have enough to maintain a good team.
I don't think it would be great or anything, but it wouldn't be the end of the world. It's not like the MLB is going defunct or anything.
