In the past I've used TaxAct. Then, the ex bought a business, so we went with her accountant. Then, divorce. Now? Hmmm.....not sure. I was planning to go back to the on-line variety, but I unexpectedly got hit with this (short-sale-related) debt forgiveness tab...which effectively increases my taxable income. Not exactly sure how to approach that particular scenario. (UGH!! :MARIS61: ) Then, there's the potential of throwing some funds towards an IRA as to lower my taxable income. Apparently, I have until April 15th to do that for the 2012 tax year. I'm considering using a professional this one last time. Thoughts? Thank You!
Use a Jew if you want to push the limits on what you can and can't deduct on your taxes and a Mormon if you want them done honestly and accurately. I used a Jew in the past without any problems but now I use a Mormon. Very nice guy. Interesting fact: People who don't believe in god are audited twice as often as people who do.
I used a Russian last year. Mainly, because was cute...oh, and catered to the Latino community. Why might that matter? Well, she charged about 1/2 for similar tax preparation services. She was thorough....and the ending was a happy one.
Proxytaxonline.com. You upload PDF's of you tax documents and then a CPA actually fills out the taxes.
Considering your houses... I'd definitely see a tax specialist. Aside from that I really like Turbo Tax. I used H&R Block software and it was flawed.
Its almost like you log onto this site, go to the right corner and search Mormon and then go from there.
They both are flawed. They really are only good if you know how the return should look like after those programs get done asking you the questions. If you have a W-2, mortgage interest, real estate taxes then those programs are great for the casual person.
The HCP has had an accountant for the past 5 years. He loves that it gets done right and he can write it off the following year! #refund
Mook, Mook, Mook, not that kind of a happy ending. Oh wait, my bad. It's ABM so yes it actually was that kind of a happy ending.
Wow . . . jews and mormons getting stereotyped in this thread. Kind of sounds like MM's "avoid drafting white players" kind of agrument (I know that is going beyond what MM thinks, but trying to follow along the theme of hiring a mormon to do your taxes) Be interested to hear why hiring a Black person to do your taxes is not a good idea?
