What if they completely strike out in free agency and don't want to go for guys like Dalembert, is there anyway to take on Pau's contract? He's making a crapload of money, and i'm not sure how much more we'd have to give up to make it match, but he is probably still better than guys like Kaman and only has 2 years left. I did see that when he was playing center the L#kers did a lot better. Crazy Mags type idea, ignore if too out there.

That would be cool to help him stick it to the Fakers. Talk about a blunder by not hiring Phil.

was going to type in one of the other threads about him. Am holding out hope that they will amnesty him to save like 50 million dollars, and we can put a big bid in to get him.

He's owed $19m next year. You'd have to be insane or really sure about our chances of contending to even consider adding him.

I don't see how you do it with out trading Aldridge (at least), just in terms of salary.

Yeah, i was thinking it would be about 6-7 mil too much, don't really want to give up any useful players to the L*kers either. I'm thinking RR7's idea would be the way to go to get him.

If the cap goes up to 60, we have almost 15 in cap space. We'd need to move Barton, Freeland and I think Claver as well to get it done. Pretty sure that'd also require us to waive the rights to Hickson and Maynor.
    You're left with
    Lillard/
    Matthews/
    Batum/
    Aldridge/
    Gasol/Leonard
And essentially nothing to fill in the gaps. Amnesty the only option. And probably unrealistic.

    Wouldn't they amnesty MWP instead?

I'm guessing they'll look to trade Gasol first. But MWP makes 12 million less than Gasol, so they won't see anywhere near the difference in savings.

There's actually been talk of them amnestying Gasol.

And MWP is their best player! At least, in my fave stat of +/-.

No other team would be foolish enough to trade for a heading-down-the-drain, 35 yr old, former All-Star C/PF. His contract is huge and you don't decimate your team building to acquire him.
Sure, you'd take him for free (via Amnesty, then as a UFA, and cheap).

Don't waste a lot of time dreaming up ways to get him. He'll be over-the-hill (if not already) by the time Lillard/Batum are ready to lead to Championship.

Gasol has fallen off of a cliff physically. If you get him, you're getting a name and not a whole lot else.

Yeah, its like getting Steve Nash..he's a shell of what he was 3 years ago. Gasol is fucking terrible now.

Gasol is one of the most over rated players in the NBA in my opinion.

Pau was considered one of the best PF/C in the league while with the Lakers. 4 straight seasons of PER over 22, ~ 18/10 with 1.5 blocks and 3+ assists.

In the long term, his brother is still playing at a high level while Pau is struggling.

True. Gasol, pau was the best "now" choice at the time; and frankly it was a good choice; since they won two titles. But now they have no future. With young gasol; they would still have one and maybe a title still.

Personally, I'd rather go for the 2 titles and worry about fixing the aging roster later on.
