I think I remember Magic tell a story once about how when he was just starting out with the Lakers there used to be insane pickup games at UCLA and Wilt (now retired) would show up. Magic started trash-talking him and he said something to the effect of "that's it - you ain't scoring any more" and (this is according to Magic) he blocked EVERY shot thereafter. And he was no spring chicken at this point.

Chamberlain carried on the Mikan tradition of making scoring his first priority. Russell made rebounding and defense his first priorities. It used to be said back then that the Celtics had 4 others on the floor who could score; the big man should concentrate on defense and rebounding. That is how Russell revolutionized the game, but there have been backsliders like Patrick Ewing who were mainly scorers.

Well, back to the Aldridge critique thread. That has nothing to do with this.

You showed that Wilt got psyched up for his rival Russell. But year after year in the playoffs, Chamberlain's go-it-alone style proved inferior to the Celtic team concept. Aldridge should focus on rebounding more and scoring less.

"Wilt's teams lost all 4 seventh games against Russell's Celtics... (Russell's Celtics were 10-0 in game 7s during his career).

The total margin of defeat in those four 7th games was nine points"

Seems like it was extremely close, and Wilt did make the finals regularly enough. Rarely did Wilt have as solid a surrounding cast.

    OK, you win.

I didn't write the post, I just reposted what someone wrote (and said so).

That 1962 game was a blowout. You convinced me.

I'll offer you this win and future considerations for a win of my choice which decides an OT thread.
