Perkins, lamb and a future first rounder is weak. I think we really could offer more.

I wonder if Portland could pull off a sign and trade of hickson, freeland and Barton for gortat and Channing frye.

The reason why I think Phoenix does this is we take on frye's contract that's been haunting them. It's a 3m tax if we get no production for frye, since freeland earns 3.5 million.

    Thoughts?

Yeah OKC's offer can be topped. If this offer is true then OKC thinks they fucked up by signing Perkins. Man they have made some mistakes. Perkins for Green (Green went for 43 the other night) and Hardin for Lamb and Martin. Not exactly making their team better.

Anyways I think we should go after Gortat. We can absorb his contract and save Phoenix money. Not sure what to throw in.....Gortat is certainly no all-star, but he is physical. I think he and Leonard would complement each other. I doubt we do better unfortunately.

Green is not a good player. He not doing anything if he isn't scoring (and he's a mediocre one at that). There's no place for him in OKC.

I would still deal Green for Perk in a split second. At least Perk is a good man defender.

I think it would take us taking back a contract. I think Frye would be the first choice for them. I think they wouldn't mind a cheaper "freeland"; so they can rebuild.

But is taking on Frye worth it? Personally I think so.

Frye is still out with the enlarged heart issue, right?

True, but when you looked at their young roster a few years ago and how everyone was praising it, and you look at it now, I don't think they got much in return for their two young lottery picks. Either Green and Hardin should have gotten more in return, or Presti was not the genius everyone said he was when he selected Green in the first place.
(Noah may have been a better pick) Obviously all GM's make mistakes.

If I were Phoenix I would jump on it. That is for sure. Phoenix is a destination for free agents, so cap space is certainly helpful to them.

I'm not so sure that OKC/Suns deal isn't all that bad for either team. OKC still gets the best player in the deal. Suns get a solid big, and a couple young / or to be drafted assets.
I don't think we have assets to top this offer.

Too many assumptions with trying to include Hickson in a S&T deal IMO. Why would he want to go there? They already have the Morris twins penciled in.

I wouldn't mind getting Gortat if he came here cheaply. That's the problem though. He won't.

It's actually not a better deal, IMO. Channing Frye is making 6.5 million next season and they want that contract gone. Giving them a young freehand + Hickson + huge cap savings; seems to fit their mold better. Perkins is still getting a lot of money and he isn't a player that justifies that pay grade, unless he is on a contending team.

Frye also has a player option for 6.8 million.

Do you really think he exercises that option?

Well.... Exercising his option would lose him a lot of money. Makes no sense.

I can't imagine that Phoenix wants to pay Perkins $18m over the next two seasons for the privilege of giving up an underpaid center in his prime (how many of those are in the league?) for what will likely be the #25-30 pick and Jeremy Lamb (a rookie drafted at #12). If I were a Suns fan I'd be furious if they signed up for that bullshit.

Adding Hickson to the mix complicates things, but I do agree that he would be a good fit for Phoenix. He is better than Frye.

If he exercises his option; then Phoenix is not bound to pay him. There isn't a team in the league that would give him the money he got in Phoenix.

You think he will make more money by not taking the option? I would be surprised. He might be able to get a longer term deal, but I doubt it would be anywhere near that on a yearly basis. Plus, presuming he comes back healthy next year, I think he'd be in a better negotiating position for the following contract. I'd be very surprised if he doesn't exercise that option.

Okay, I am tired. I meant he will not "opt out"
